Hey y’all - I’m Madie, the owner, grower and head designer at Wild Flora. If you’re new here I’m a passionate, silly Virgo sun with a fiery moon and ascendant, so I farm with lots of love (and a bit of loud enthusiasm!). With degrees in international studies, Spanish, and Latin American studies, I’ve got a complex love-hate relationship with politics. But that’s what fuels my desire to build a community where everyone, regardless of gender, race, or religion, can come together and rely on each other through tough times. I hope to be focusing on this a lot more in the upcoming years. My dream beyond farming is a senior dog sanctuary filled with happy pups and Highland cows. That’s what keeps me growing, both flowers and connections. Please pop off in the comments and tell me about yourself! Even give me ideas of how you want to see Wild Flora grow into the community.

I have very few words of comfort right now. My heart aches, a pit in my stomach grows. But what I have learned from the last 8 years is that we need community right now. We need to lean on, support, and fight for each other. If you need a comforting space, join us tonight from 6-8pm at for our first workshop. Tomorrow, let’s use our voices to push for a better future by voting blue. I have never told anyone how to vote because I firmly believe that we have a right to our own opinions. But this election is too important. If He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named wins, we won’t have the right to have differing opinions. We need leaders who will protect our values, our human rights, and our communities. And once we’re heard, we can keep holding our leaders accountable. You know I will be out there demanding justice for Gaza, Lebanon, the Congo and every other unnecessary g*en0c!d3. Plus, reminding Idaho senators and representatives that abortion is healthcare.

Vote like the future of our democracy depends on it—because it does.

We know that YOU know how scary climate change is right now. We’re living through environmental disasters like we’ve never seen before. And sometimes we feel helpless in taking it all on. But little acts matter! Which is why we got into growing flowers organically in the first place.
🌼 Local flowers disrupt the importing of blooms drenched in chemicals from thousands of miles away. 🌼 Our flowers are grown hand in hand with nature. We start them from seed during the cold months and at the end of the season, they’re composted.
🌼 We use natural fertilizers when necessary that add to our soil health and incorporate as many regenerative farming techniques as we can.
All of this is to be in the flow of Mother Nature and to do our small part against climate change. When you buy our flowers, you’re doing a small part too! It’s just a bonus that our flowers last so long in a vase.
Lastly, one of the best things we can do when it comes to climate change is vote for people who will put policy in place to get us to net zero. Please do your research and vote for candidates that will get us there in a couple of weeks 💜

We have so many incredible, seasonal goodies for you right now! Just because the fresh flowers have gone with Saturday’s frost doesn’t mean that the farm’s beauty is over. We dry flowers all season long just for this exact time. So get some everlasting blooms in whatever form you love them in most! Like an arrangement or a wreath! Like a silly little farmer, I forgot to the close the greenhouses on Sunday night. To which I thought at 10:30pm that evening, ‘It’s fine - the low is 39°. The plants have survived worst this fall.’ I was VERY wrong. Temps dipped to 28° that evening and we lost the dahlias 😭 so here’s a dedication to one of our favorite flowers. They’ll be so missed until next season.

And to all y’all who have some mistakes this week, try not to beat yourself up too badly. We’re human and we’re doing the best we can with what we’ve got 🫶🏻

👑D A H L I A S👑

The resident drama queens of the farm. And yet, we (don’t worry I’m speaking for us all) adore them so much! So I thought I should pop on here and give you a few heads up about these late-summer jaw droppers.

✨ Despite having a crap vase life, these are one of the most expensive flowers we sell. Usually a short-lived flower in the vase would be cheaper but dahlias are a rare exception to the rule!

✨ They’re so pricey because of how labor intensive they are. Dahlias require so much more of our time, better (i.e. more expensive) soil and amendments and other special treatments. Doing all this organically is particularly pricey, and all so we can enjoy their perfect blooms.

✨A fun trick to keep your dahlias alive longer in your home is to put them in boiling water! Wild, right? Trim the stem at least a half-inch then place it boiling water. Leave them there until the water cools. The put it back in your vase. Be sure that the vase and water is clean and out of direct sunlight!

Neither the smoky heat nor rainy receptions could keep C+C from having an epic, love-filled day! This sweet couple and their cherished people took the celebrations to another level in spite of everything Mother Nature tried to throw at them on their wedding day. These two deserved the legendary dance party at the end of the night.

Creating floral beauty for incredible couples constantly humbles me! My gratitude as wedding florist knows no bounds.

What a horrible fire season we’ve had! It’s definitely the worst year I can recall since we’ve started farming. To support out the brave and remarkable firefighters that are battling the Wapiti fire, we’re donating 20% of our profits from the upcoming week. These courageous people are saving cabins, businesses and communities while watching some of our favorite places to recreate burn. Let’s show them how much they mean to us! Help us donate as much as we can by buying bouquets for your homes, loved ones or even the Senior Connection! Next Friday, September 6, we will contribute what we’ve made to the fundraiser.
