On this day in 2014 we completed the impossible! This beautiful bride had a vision of a beautiful silver gown and we custom ordered for her. She had delayed ordering and so it arrived on the Monday before the wedding. When I opened the box, my heart sank. I began to cry! I really didn’t want to call my bride, but call I must. With a hope, and a prayer that she might like the country blue that the gown arrived in rather than the silver that she had asked for. She came to the store, took one look, and burst into tears! I shared her feelings!!! I assured her that I would resolve the problem. At that moment, I actually had no idea how I was going to do it. But somehow I was I was going to do it. so that week everything was set aside while I focused on my one girl. I could not find the lace in the right color. I could not find the trim in the right color but I could find the right lace and trim. So I am dying the lace and the trim, I deconstructed the gown to use it as a pattern. And then I went about dying all of the materials and reconstruct the gown. I’m not really sure how I slept. I had timed out how long each action would take to achieve for completion on time. Without the help of my friends, Nellie and Christine along with my daughter Desir’ee it would’ve never happened. But I delivered the gown to the bride minutes before the wedding and she was ecstatic with the results as was I. Believe me it was no easy task with that “magic wand” to make this fairytale come true. But it’s one of them many emotionally satisfying memories from my five decades of dressing, women and making their dreams come true! I wanted to thank her for having the faith and trust in me that I would keep my word. So even though there are bumps in the road, I’ve always managed to find a way to jump them.

I was asked by our teacher, Mrs. Lyle, to catch the little girls coming down the big slide in the playground before they dropped into the muddy puddle at the bottom. This was my first endeavor at public service.
It worked out quite well.... It was here that I met Cheryl Beneduce, who 17 years later became my bride. ( My hand up to God, I can still remember how she was special coming down that slide ) And now 40 years later, I'm lucky ( and honored) to still be catching her so that she never falls.

What an awesome God I serve! With all that has happened: I fear not. Living in total faith that things happen in Gods perfect timing. That all that has happened is for an ultimate purpose, even if I don’t know what that purpose is right now. So I am being thankful for ALL things. Just as cori Tenboom was thankful for the fleas in the concentration camp. And she helped save thousands of lives. Still leaning on the promise that I too will save many lives.

Going to look at new digs today! 🙏💖✝️ I have all faith that I will be led to the perfect place at the perfect time! 🥰

SO after SEVEN months of trying to get AT&T to uphold what I had agreed to over the phone: which was $50 per line. We are getting a divorce. They are now holding my phone's & #'s (which I OWN) hostage to being unlocked to transfer. I can not justify paying $150 PER PHONE for three phones when other offers ($25.00) are available.

This is not the first time they have screwed me. 18.5 years ago when I moved my store from Division to Plainfield they confirmed (hours and hours of conversation) that I could port my BUSINESS number. So I got all the printed materials printed for the new location (about 5k) and then the phone bill came.....and it was somewhere around $350 BECAUSE they were charging me something like .35 cents per call to FORWARD. Some days I might get 90 calls. That was unsustainable for a small business. Moving a bridal salon is like starting over from scratch. THEN they started selling my phone calls to other bridal shops. I did not know this for several years. Then a gal came informed me. Then I was able to get the phone number on a cell phone, which is my personal cell, but I have been forced to pay business rates on that phone.

I have been with AT&T since the 70's!! Today I divorced AT&T and will never be back.

In my decades of serving women some of my favorites were those who were shopping for that anniversary dress. A favorite question was what makes marriage work? Most common answer was don't sweat the little stuff and remember it's all little stuff. Favorite answer: You will not love your husband every day, but you can fall back in love with him over and over again.

Why did I love asking those questions? Because I learned and was able to pass their sage advice on to my new brides.

Traditional gown colors (and gifts) were 25 - Silver 50 - Gold 75 - Diamonds and 80 - Wood? seriously wood?

We definitely love a good love story with staying power!!

After many hours on the phone with AT&T I'm pleased to announce that we are able to retain our original land line number which has been converted to a Cell. This means that you can either call or Text 616-364-0777.

On another note: I'm having my mitral valve replacement tomorrow with a very fine and competent surgeon, that only does mitral valve replacements, at the Helen DeVos heart center. I will be out of commission business wise for a few weeks. Prayers requested. Very much looking forward to have a fully working heart.

Change Voicemail on your phone To a Message that provides your Approximate Location, Time, Date, your Circumstances such as being lost, out of gas, car is not working, injured, & any special instructions such as address if you know address, any landmark, you are staying with the car, walking toward a town, Name town.

Know that one of the benefits of making this decision is even if your cell phone dies or stops working Voicemail Still Works so anyone calling your phone looking for you will Hear the Message & will know where to find you or where to send help.

UPDATE! Dwin is out of the hospital and will be on doctor ordered bed rest for 10 days. The stress has just been more than she could hold up under. Normal business hours will resume August 1st. There will be days that we will be closed. We will be open 1-8pm next week Monday 7/24, 11-8pm Tuesday 7/25, Wednesday7/26 & Thursday 7/27 and Friday7/28. Closed Saturday 7/29. We will continue to update as information is available.

We are so relieved to say that we were relatively unaffected by the tragedy that occurred last evening and this morning at the neighbors building.

I couldn't get to sleep nor did I feel tired all night long, but knew i needed sleep! So I lay there in the dark and prayed and alternately counted sheep.

Feeling so blessed that I listened last week when that small quiet voice told me to bag the gowns in the bridal room. Very minor and repairable damages! Praise God for his veil of protection. Prayers for the neighbor lady and her three children. It looks like her loss was significant, but not as much as the gentleman who's life was lost.
