Our birds are bred from racing pigeons (aka Rock Doves) and are trained with our racing birds for distance and strength all year long. We vaccinate our birds to protect them from common diseases and keep them on a strict diet and vitamin regimen to maintain their health. All of this is coordinated by the loft manager and my dad, Jim Ruffini. Jim is a retired Marine who has raised and raced homing pigeons since childhood. He has built lofts across America from Washington DC to Hawaii until he retired and built our current loft just south of Kansas City. He has raised many champion birds over the last 50+ years of the sport. When raising our release doves, he starts training the young birds early in summer. It's not uncommon to see a free dove release along Holmes Road or from open parking lots along 71 highway in June!

Happy New Year from the Dove Loft! As many of you already know, we have had a rough few months since moving the birds to their new home. Training from scratch is a slow process and takes patience. I'm happy to say that we have birds out flying and getting their bearings and they are strong flyers! I'll try to post some pics of our feathered friends this week. In other news, we have some cute youngsters getting ready to move to the big kid section of the loft and lots of eggs have been laid during this warm spell. Now, if we could just get the eagles to continue their migration to wherever they go next, that would be GREAT!!

We're on vacation in Ireland and there's a white dove living in the old part of the castle where we are staying! What!?

All Occasion Doves has finally made the big move to the new loft! We have been training our young birds and in a few more weeks we will be back open for business. We appreciate everyone's patience during this transition.

We welcomed 8 new friends to the loft today! These beauties came from our friends at Foys and we can't wait to see them raising youngsters for our flying team!

The aviary for our birds is finished! Thank you, Bill! They now have a safe place to enjoy some sunshine and talk to the chickens and ducks!

Our older birds moved into the new loft a few weeks ago and within a few days started laying eggs! Today, we had our first baby hatch! Welcome to the world, little one!

Today we got to do something kind for a young person. A student needed photos of doves for her photography assignment. She drove down to the farm and I had a grand time releasing them for her one by one. Hope she got some good shots!! Big thank you to my brother, Alec, for helping crate them all up!

I released the youngsters at 4 miles from the loft at 11:48am and "raced" them back. I only beat them by a few minutes! They're coming along great!

Today we were honored to release doves at the Su***de Awareness Survivor Support Walk at Loose Park. Thank you to Bonnie Swade and all of the wonderful volunteers for your tireless efforts to reach out to families and friends who have lost a loved one. It was a beautiful day for the walk and a beautiful service.
