Dust Bowl Faeries DUET perform a faerie-tale of dark cabaret and gothic polka music, infused with a dose of witchcraft and a dusting of woodland magic. The accordion driven freak-folk ensemble hails from the New York Hudson Valley and draws inspiration from sinister circus songs, murder ballads and Eastern European folk music. Singing saw, piano accordion, percussion and acoustic guitar combine to create the Dust Bowl Faeries otherworldly sound.

Celebrate the winners of Slate Belt Heritage Center - SBHC's 2025 Annual Preservation Awards this Thursday evening! Honorees include:

- Initiative Award: Jane Hill-Rosato, who has devoted countless hours of her time mentoring students from Bangor Area High and volunteering at the Heritage Center.
- Architectural Award: Todd and Heather Rehrig - for the renovation and restoration of their house located next to the Belvidere Highway Bridge in Martin’s Creek.
- Special Focus Award: Robert Uliana - for his 15+ years maintaining the Upper Edelman Schoolhouse.

Happy Father's day!

This view of the Brooklyn Bridge is a wonderful watercolor abstraction by Harmony local artist Robin Stokes.

The scene evokes a sense of wonder and forboding simultaneously. The bridge belly is filled with the ghostly matter - smoke, dust, and steam - required to move forward and charge ahead into adventure.

I'm reminded of the bridge in The Great Gatsby: Nick Carraway, the narrator, reflects on the view from the bridge, describing it as "the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and beauty in the world."

The contrast of the strong steel bridge against violet blue and energetic, warm yellow sky is an instant capture of life's complexities.

Since the epidemic of covid, we've all had to find our inner strength and push through to find the light of hope again.
