The Sequoia Retreat Center is a beautiful collection of indoor and outdoor meeting spaces located in Ben Lomond, California. Built by a community of individuals dedicated to personal and social transformation during the 1970s, all buildings have recently undergone renovation. The Sequoia is just 45 minutes west of the San Jose airport, but a world away as it is nestled amid acres of majestic coastal redwoods [Sequoia sempervirens], madrones, and tan oaks.

Thank you a year of adjusting, of acceptance and of LOVE.
So ready for 2022 🌲and gratitude for
Amanda Gorman’s end-of-year poem,
‘New Day’s Lyric’ below:

May this be the day
We come together.
Mourning, we come to mend,
Withered, we come to weather,
Torn, we come to tend,
Battered, we come to better.
Tethered by this year of yearning,
We are learning
That though we weren’t ready for this,
We have been readied by it.
Steadily we vow that no matter
How we are weighed down,
We must always pave a way forward.
This hope is our door, our portal.
Even if we never get back to normal,
Someday we can venture beyond it,
To leave the known and take the first steps.
So let us not return to what was normal,
But reach toward what is next.
What was cursed, we will cure.
What was plagued, we will prove pure.
Where we tend to argue, we will try to agree,
Those fortunes we forswore, now the future we foresee,
Where we weren’t aware, we’re now awake;
Those moments we missed
Are now these moments we make,
The moments we meet,
And our hearts, once all together beaten,
Now all together beat.
Come, look up with kindness yet,
For even solace can be sourced from sorrow.
We remember, not just for the sake of yesterday,
But to take on tomorrow.
We heed this old spirit,
In a new day’s lyric,
In our hearts, we hear it:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
Be bold, sang Time this year,
Be bold, sang Time,
For when you honor yesterday,
Tomorrow ye will find.
Know what we’ve fought
Need not be forgot nor for none.
It defines us, binds us as one,
Come over, join this day just begun.
For wherever we come together,
We will forever overcome.

Sunset 12-1-21
December has arrived. Another year zoomed by ~ I’m really ready to sink into the coming winter solstice, while doing all I can to amplify the light!

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems.” Rumi

Be well. En-Joy.

In the summer of 1991, a prominent group of Israelis and Palestinians came together in the small mountain town of Ben Lomond, California to work out and sign a groundbreaking peace agreement which became the basis for later formal meetings in Madrid and Oslo.  Jerusalem: The Bridge to Peace, an historic one hour documentary, produced by professor Emeritus Sociology Bob Gliner, follows the peacemakers after their return to Israel and the West Bank to profile their lives living under conflict and find out what happened to the agreement, the challenges it faced, and how these might be overcome.

Today, with the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians continuing to rage with seemingly no permanent resolution in sight, this historic film offers both great insight into the conflict but above all points the way toward a lasting peace.

Jerusalem: The Bridge to Peace airs throughout the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas Monday night, Sept. 13, at 11 PM on PBS station KQED, (Comcast 9 and 709 HD), it also repeats on Sept. 14 at 5:00 AM, and on KQED Plus (Comcast 10 and 710 HD) on Sept. 23 at 4 PM, and Sept 25 at 7:30 AM.
