It is the veteran, not the reporter, who has given you freedom of the press.
It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given you freedom of speech.
It is the veteran, not the protester, who has given you freedom to assemble.
It is the veteran, not the lawyer, who has given you the right to a fair trial.
It is the veteran, not the politician, who has given you the right to vote.

It is the veteran who salutes the Flag, who serves under the Flag, and whose coffin is draped by the Flag.

Today, we pause to honor and thank the brave men and women who have served our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication have helped shape the freedoms we enjoy every day.

At the Museum of History Benicia, we are proud to share and preserve the stories of local heroes who answered the call to serve. Benicia’s history is deeply tied to military service — from the days of the Benicia Arsenal to the contributions of veterans throughout our community.

We invite you to take a moment today to reflect on their service and, if you can, thank a veteran in your life.
