With rainy weather on the horizon, South Park Drive in Tilden Park will be closing effective Friday, November 1st, 2024 through April 1st, 2025 for the California newts' migration during the rainy season. Please make plans to adjust your travel plans and advise event attendees to use other access routes, such as Golf Course Drive to Shasta Road, to reach the Brazilian Room.

If you are planning to visit the Brazilian Room during our first Tuesday of the Month Open House, November 5th, please plan your route accordingly. We will be holding Open House on Election Day from 3pm-7pm. Staff will be available to answer questions along with Approved Caterers Carrie Dove Catering & Events , S+S Gastro Grub Catering , and Trumpetvine Catering .

Our heritage cheery trees bloomed a little later than expected this year. The trees are now in full bloom, just in time for our second April Open House this Tuesday, April 16th.

In honor of East Bay Regional Park District's 90th Anniversary, our Wedding Fair theme this year is 💚Forever Yours in the Outdoors💚 and we have a special guest attending the Wedding Fairs. . . Smokey the Bear will be joining us to share information about how 💗Only You💗can prevent forest fires while celebrating in the parks.

Now that Fall has officially arrived, here's some autumn wedding inspiration for your feed.

As we prepare for our October Open Houses, we're reminded of this beautiful Halloween inspired Brazilian Room wedding from 2022.

Join us October 3rd and 17th to tour the Brazilian Room. Staff members and caterers will be onsite at each Open House event to answer questions, assist with AV Tests, and give tours of the building.

As we say goodbye to our cherry blossoms, which are quickly being replaced by green leaves, we're thankful for the wildflowers popping up throughout the lawns surrounding the Brazilian Room. Tiny daisy-like wildflowers are scattered across the lawn between the Brazilian Room and Island Picnic Area currently.

🚧 SOUTH PARK DRIVE CLOSURE EXTENDED 🚧

South Park Drive will remain closed this year through April 14th, in an effort to allow the small tributary streams to dry up some more.

Since the mid 80’s Park Operations staff have worked closely with the EBRPD Stewardship Department to ensure the safe passage of the Golden-Bellied Salamander (newts) and developed a road closure protocol for South Park Drive from November 1st to April 1st. This mile-and-a-half roadway closure occurs during the rainy season that triggers newt migrations to nearby tributaries and streams.

Our road closure protocol was established to protect the newts during most of their breeding season and migration, but periodically, there are late rains that extend the migration period. In the summer and fall, newts typically reside in upland areas in leaf litter, under rocks and logs, and in small mammal burrows waiting for the rains. Once it rains, the newts become aquatic and start moving in wetted areas to find pools in tributary streams or ponds to mate and lay their eggs. The movement of newts in the area typically stops after the rain ends in the spring and the small tributary streams dry up. Periodically, there are late rains that extend the time that newts are moving throughout the upper watershed. Since this year has been exceptionally wet, it is likely there will continue to be newt migration in the area after our typical reopening date.
