Orbit Artist Spotlight:
Froggy
Ever heard of Froggy House? Don’t worry; you soon will. Representing our own Orbit family, this week Froggy will be stepping away from his role as host and taking the stage to share the particulars of how own personal subgenre. Much like his namesake, Froggy hops around touching upon a wide variety of sounds. He mixes tracks with commonality in mind. He aims to convey not just the music, but his being. From jackin’ to tech and swing house, Froggy plays “any sound that fits [his] personality.” He calls it “organized chaos,” but its chaotic elements are what make it cohesive. Once a bass DJ, Froggy stepped into four-to-the-floor at a time when everything was turning in a less danceable direction. In the past few years he has found house music to be a place where he’s truly at home. Combining the influences of his acting and dance degrees with his eclectic taste, Froggy’s sets promise a performance that will be unforgettable. He aims to produce sets that not only keep the floor dancing, but ones that tell a story and take you on a journey through sound. Influenced by Fatboy Slim, Malah, and Claptone, he aspires to convey musicality with performance. The result is something to be seen.
In many ways, Froggy’s success is a vindication, an FU to everyone who said it wasn’t possible, and a middle finger to those who discouraged him from making his mark. He calls his sets the stories of a phoenix rising from the ashes—tales that represent his success facing personal challenges, and the strength of a scene that, no matter how ravaged, can be trusted to fight through adversity. His goal is to “block out the bad,” offering an hour of unity in a world divided by its own sort of chaos.
Froggy performs at nights like those held at Portland’s Flask Lounge and the venue at Free Street. He has played for audiences of all tastes, a favorite memory being his house set at a festival entirely devoted to bass music; handing the decks over to a very impressed Ahee was a defining moment in his career. Froggy’s a festival favorite, and has held residencies that have influenced both enthusiasts and up-and-coming DJs.
As evident in both his host and performance roles, Froggy’s is a personality that will never be replicated. His passion for the music and his taste in tracks shine through on the stage. Though managing to control the dancefloor, Froggy can often be seen dancing harder than anyone in the room. His energy and stage presence win over the harshest critics, and his efforts to get the crowd going are always successful.
For his Orbit performance, Froggy aims to bring joy and energy, planning to “take all the sexy and lay it out on the dancefloor.” Bring your sexy with you on Friday and be prepared to display it blatantly for everyone to see. This set is going to be memorable, and Froggy’s energy promises to stay with you in the upcoming days. Ribbit, ribbit!
