When you think of the Middle Ages, dragons blood may not be the first thing that springs to mind. However, mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns played an unexpected but crucial role in how medieval Christians understood their wider world, and also how artists physically made their artwork. In this talk, Maggie Crosland, the curator of European art at the Birmingham Museum of Art, will explore how various animals β real, imaginary, and somewhere in-between β influenced art making in Europe in the period between 1300 and 1500 CE.
Maggie Crosland is the Curator of European Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
