Our Story

I started this business after I began drowning in the fabric I was buying from JoAnn Fabrics when I worked there in college. I designed some clothing in high school (I made my own prom dress) and I started to learn more techniques while working for a the fabric store. I wanted to bring my creations to the public. This is when Designs by Emily Elizabeth was born.

The first items for my shop consisted of mostly purses and it quickly moved into having baby booties and hats and then my popular Crayon Rolls. I still made some costumes for myself in between this time, however I mainly stuck to sewing purses and Crayon Rolls.

After moving back to my hometown of Bismarck, ND, I started to see posts from one of my favorite textile artists. I’ve been following her from her days on Deviantart before she became the powerhouse she is today. And then, I watch the Oscars. I fell in LOVE with the dresses the women were wearing and with the costumes created for the movies. This is when I decided Designs by Emily Elizabeth needed to start going back in the direction it was always meant to be.

While I work on more costumes and custom clothing pieces, I am still going to offer my Crayon Rolls and the other purses I have as well as crocheted items. I want to be a go-to place for women (and men) to get that perfect costume or accessory to complete a cosplay.
