The Progeny Short Film Festival takes place annually in Blacksburg, Virginia, hosted by Virginia Tech’s School of Performing Arts. The festival aims to provide a platform for independent filmmakers and students around Southwest Virginia. Progeny seeks to uplift filmmakers producing thought-provoking content showcasing a diverse range of styles, genres, and interests.

In order to win an apartment in the capital city, Shaban (40) alongside his wife and children, are forced to prepare for the arrival of a television programme that will showcase their tough financial situation in the media.

DIRECTOR HANA BUCALIJA

Hana Bucalija grew up in Ferizaj (Kosovo), and moved to the capital city at the age of 18 to attend film school. She is a Passionate Film student with extensive industry experience, and knowledge of all stages of the filmmaking process. Besides being a film director, she can handle positions as assistant director, line producer, and scriptwriter.

Metamorphosis provides a look into Virginia Tech alumni Kevin Foster's creative being as he discusses the impact performing and designing wigs has on his life, and how performing drag helped him discover a new side of himself that he wants to show the world.

DIRECTOR SOPHIA TROUT

Sophia Trout is a senior at Virginia Tech studying cinema. While she's made short films in the past, Metamorphosis is her first submission to Progeny, and she couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity. After graduation, Sophia hopes to pursue filmmaking and take the knowledge given to her through the cinema department and apply it to her professional career.

Cal and his friend Grace traverse through Cal's memories to figure out why he had a falling out with his old best friend, and by looking through the past they hope to fix the present.

DIRECTOR COLLIN SCHUSTER

My name is Collin Schuster, and I am a story artist and animator from Dallas, Texas and graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s in Animation and Digital Arts. My areas of interest include storyboarding, 2D animation, animation production, development, and musical composition. Plus, I love to play doubles tennis and jam on the keyboard very late at night, as well as play the melodica (Look it up, it will change your life). My favorite shows are Adventure Time, Bob’s Burgers, Star vs. The Forces of Evil, and Arrested Development. In other words, no, I haven’t grown up yet.
