Life’s too short: break out the fine china!
/////
These vintage “Audubon: Birds of America” plates belonged to Kate’s grandma, who kept them in a hutch. Now you can eat off a piece of history at Tiny Refuge! The bird plates come out for every potluck for sustainability and kitsch purposes.
/////
The next potluck is next Friday, June 7 when we welcome ! Use the link in bio to sign up for the invite list and RSVP for the show. Be there or be (a) square (plate)!

Season's greetings!
/////
We spent our holiday weekend wearing dorky hats to do some container gardening. If all goes well, we'll actually have an herb and vegetable harvest to share at our late summer concert potlucks. 🤞

Chrys Wilson and Jessica Gebbink-Wilson (.music) both began their musical journeys in adolescence. Whether singing, playing piano, as a member of a choir, orchestra, or performing solo, their love for music brought them together in 2006 at Peoria Area Civic Chorale’s Eureka College Choral Camp. Chrys and Jessica were selected as the winners of PACC’s Young Artist Competition in
2006 and 2007. They both proceeded to advance their musical education in Vocal Performance at Bradley University and Western University.
/////
Joined by a passion for harmony and texture, Chrys and Jessica married and welcomed their first child (Lincoln) in 2015, and their second child (Esmè) in 2019. Performing under their band name Projekts, in the winter of 2014 Chrys and Jessica made it their mission to return to music what music has provided in their lives: Joy and Purpose. Over the past 7 years Projekts have performed throughout Central Illinois furthering their love for the arts and their community.
/////
As part of Gebbink Music Studio (Morton, IL) it is Jessica's privilege to instruct the next generation of musicians in Central Illinois. Whether through voice, piano, or ukulele, her students are taught to spread joy and demonstrate purpose wherever they go. Good music is a gift meant to be shared.

Calendar girl
/////
Because our music venue is also our house, concertgoers get to see some quirky family treasures! This is a bilingual calendar that Erys’ mom makes with her calligraphy group in Montreal.
/////
Each month features a joke or pun handwritten by someone in the group. Sometimes it’s in French, sometimes in English!
/////
This month’s quip: Intelligence is like underwear. It is important that you have it, but not necessary that you show it off!
/////

Full moon fire!
/////
We host fire gatherings that are more conversation-centric than our usual events. Why the full moon? It's not hippie magic, it's logistics (your magic mileage may vary). Honestly, have you ever tried to coordinate a social gathering with more than three neurodiverse people? In this economy??
/////
We'd never get together if we didn't have a previously agreed upon date that Google calendar can validate. Full moon? See you at our place.

Every Tiny Refuge house concert starts with an open jam and a potluck! Since Music With Sass is headlining our March 22 show, we'll stick with song titles that are short and sweet. What's your favorite that fits the bill? (Kate's favorite is "Crazy" by Willie Nelson)

Join the invite list and get details on the open jam at https://tinyrefuge.ck.page/invitelist

As Tom Waits says, come on up to the house
/////
Tiny Refuge is proud to be an official Folk Alliance International house concert venue. So, what’s a house concert?
/////
A house concert is just what it sounds like—a concert in a house. It’s different than other concerts in some important ways.
/////
Instead of buying tickets, donations are offered by the audience to support the artist. 100% of money collected goes directly to the artist.
/////
Since a house concert is technically a private event, audience members need to have “prior contact” with us, which means signing up for our invite list. This is especially important for our safety and the safety of our artists.
/////
For artists, house concerts are a great way to reach small but mighty audiences. Our folksters are incredibly supportive and dedicated to supporting live music in our community. No distracted barflys here!
/////
And, a house concert is a way to build community. We host a potluck and open jam that starts an hour before every show because we believe that live music is a community service and everyone can join in the fun.
/////
You can sign up for our invite list right now at bit.ly/tinyrefugeshows
