PRESS RELEASE
Missing Person Update
Case Number: 202200122
February 8, 2022
On February 8, 2022, Deputies with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office along with Officers with the California Highway Patrol, searched the areas of East Side Road north of Trinity Lake, as well as Trinity Center and State Route 3 for Leah Hoffman.
The search of this area began when it was learned that Leah had been dropped off in this area on February 7, just after 1:00 PM, after walking away from the residence where she had been staying.
The search which included ground and air units, was unsuccessful in locating Leah.
Also during the afternoon of February 8, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a potential sighting of Leah, near the area of Whiskeytown Lake. The reporting party indicated that they had seen the information regarding Leah’s disappearance, to include her photographs, and were fairly confident that the individual they had seen was Leah. This reported individual had been alone and near no vehicles.
United States Park Rangers, California Highway Patrol Officers, and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area approximately one hour after the initial sighting and searched, but were unable to locate the sighted individual. It remains unknown if this individual was Leah.
The search remains ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public, based on the fact that Leah herself did not appear to have with her any devices which could assist in tracking her movements.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office at 530-623-8126.
