Lydia Merril and her husband, Orson, purchased the building in 1958 for $1,000, initially as a roller skate rink, but eventually turned it into an event space.

With sorrow we would like to announce that Lydia Merrill, the founder of the Mardi Gras and Boise local staple, has passed on to a heavenly place at the ripe age of 106.

If you have been to the Mardi Gras Ballroom anytime over the last 60 years, you may have been lucky enough to meet her at her favorite place doing what she love..chatting with friends and strangers alike, watching people dance and laugh & being a piece of many important life celebrations. Perhaps yours.❤️

She loved a good party. Even at 106.

Her fiery sweet spirit will forever be cherished.

THANK YOU to those that helped this little German woman fulfill her dream by being a part of something she cherished so much.

For those who wish to pay their respects, a celebration service has been arranged for Monday November 15th at 12 noon.

The owner of the Mardi Gras since 1959, Lydia Merrill, is celebrating her 106th birthday tomorrow, August 18th. To help her celebrate, the TODAY show with Al Roker will feature her along with other Centenarians. She still loves to watch the dancers and people having a good time on the "best dance floor in town." What an amazing woman!
