Letter from our president,
When I became president this year, I never expected that I would have to write something like this. Disaster has struck the High Country like we’ve never seen before and hopefully will never see again. Our businesses, personal property, and even the mountains themselves have been forever changed. I know right now weddings seem frivolous amidst the destruction, but maybe a little dancing and love is what we need right now. So many of us have experienced loss, myself included, but we need to come together to help each other out.
Vendors – Let us know you are safe! If you need any personal or professional assistance, please reach out and we will coordinate to get you what you need. We are here to support you however we can.
Couples – I know so many of you have dreamed of your wedding day all your life, and now it seems that it is all falling apart. Please know your vendors are doing everything they can for you, but things like electricity and road repair are beyond their control and upcoming weddings will most likely need to be canceled or moved off the mountain. Most of the region is still without cell service, electricity, and internet; your vendors will reach out as soon as they can. In the meantime, if you have event insurance we suggest reaching out to see what may or may not be covered if your wedding is changed or canceled. You and your guests should also try to reach out to your accommodations to confirm their status. The rentals and hotels that are still accessible and have power have shifted their focus to housing individuals who lost everything and the volunteers who are working long hours to rescue people and repair the infrastructure. We know it is frustrating to not have any information, believe me, we wish we had the answers to your questions. Please be patient with vendors, some have lost everything.
We hope everyone stays safe as we continue to dig out from this tragedy. October is peak wedding season in the mountains, and while the foliage might not be spectacular this year, we will do our best to have a wonderful wedding season.
-Caroline Orcutt, President
