Nickelanddiamondit.com Paying Homage to The Sausage Guy! thesausageguy.com

I grew up in Boston Massachusetts and anyone who ever grew up there or attended a Red Sox game has heard of or knows The Sausage Guy. I remember working with my dad in Boston for the day back in the 90's. It was a game day, we walked over to Landsdowne St. just to get a sausage from The Sausage Guy.

My husband would get a sausage from him every time he went to a game. It was part of his game day tradition.

This is not a recreation, because I don't think anyone could recreate the deliciousness of these sausages, but this was my attempt to make them for my husband, considering that we no longer live in Boston. I did my best and he was pleasantly surprised! They were flavorful and really hit the spot when watching the game.

Here is the recipe that I used. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients -

Mild or Hot Italian Sausages
1/2 tsp. - Garlic powder
1/4 tsp. - Garlic salt
1/4 tsp. - Salt
1/4 tsp. - Pepper
1/2 tsp. - Onion powder
1 tsp. - Parsley flakes
1 whole Onion sliced
1 Red bell peppers
2 Green bell peppers
1 Yellow Bell pepper
1 Orange bell pepper
4 Tbls. - Olive oil

Directions –

Fill a medium heavy bottomed pan with water about ¾ full. Place it on the stove top to boil. Once it is boiled add your sausages. I let them boil for about 15 minutes.
While I was waiting for them to boil, I was cleaning and slicing the peppers and onion.
In a large skillet add the olive oil, and all your seasonings. Make sure the skillet is nice and hot. Place your sausages on the hot skillet with the oil and seasonings. You want to brown the sausages all around. This may take a little time, but it will be worth it.
Once the sausages are evenly browned, remove them from the skillet, and add your onions and peppers to the very same skillet. You may want to add a little more oil, but that all depends on your preference. All the flavors from the sausages and seasonings enhance the flavor of the onions and peppers. In other words, it will all come together nicely. I like to really sauté the onions and peppers for a bit. The longer you cook them, the softer they will be. Some people may like it with a little crunch if that’s the case sauté them for less time. This is all up to you and your preferences.

You can enjoy as is, or put them on a toasted sausage bun. The choice is yours, but be sure to enjoy them!
