Our Origins

Hi, welcome to our small family owned and operated flower shop located in Boulder City, NV, a historical town right next to the Hoover Dam!

Our origins in the floral industry stretch back to 1962 when Grandpa Joe opened up Joe’s Discount Nursery in Las Vegas, NV. Within two years, Granny Claire decided she wanted to also have her own business, so she opened Claire’s Flowers located right in the nursery itself. She studied floral design in order to better her craft and actively involved her three daughters, Linda, Cynthia, and Kristine, in the business.

These three sisters grew up in the floral industry, and each had a part in the family business. Kris became a Master Designer and studied horticulture at California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo and tropical design under the Phil Rulloda School of Design, all while participating and winning design competitions. Kris continued to work at Claire’s Flowers until its dissolution in the early 2010s when the three sisters parted ways in the business after Granny Claire passed away.

Afterward, Kris worked in large flower shops in the Las Vegas Valley, including Dibella’s Flowers and Flower Fair, and Kelsey, her daughter, consequently grew up in the back of these shops. There, Kelsey saw her mother design multiple styles and pieces, and as a child who was always curious, she frequently asked Kris about why her mother designed a bouquet a certain way. As such, Kelsey would often sit and spend time with her mother as she designed, firing off questions that Kris would patiently answer, teaching her daughter design and aesthetics.

When Kris moved with her family to Boulder City, NV, she founded Boulder City Florist in March of 2002, fulfilling her lifelong dream of owning her own flower shop in the process. There before even officially opening the doors, when the shelves still needed to be stocked and the cooler filled, Kelsey made her first silk flower arrangement at ten years old, and she was sure it would never sell, thinking that she would never design something as beautiful as her mother did. But, within three days, one of Boulder City Florist’s first customers came in and picked out her silk flower arrangement. Kelsey was absolutely thrilled and decided to learn more about design, vowing that she would hone her craft and become a Master Designer like her mother.

Since that very first arrangement we painstakingly agonized over, debated about, huffed in frustration at, we have been a team in building and creating this business with every member involved. Dan Thompson, Kris’s husband, and Casey Vanetti, their son, both deliver and help process new shipments, aiding the business in any way they can when they can.

From the very beginning we have been a family owned and operated establishment with our foundation rooted firmly in a philosophy we believe: giving our customers the individual care and attention we believe they deserve. We take pride in connecting with our clients in a meaningful manner, because we truly believe that within the bonds we share is where great art resides. We are moved by your stories--when you tell us a loved one has passed away or that you are marrying the love of your life, when you just tell us you want to make someone feel special--we are affected, and our designs change to reflect your story.

Here, we strive to think of every arrangement as having a story, a meaning, a purpose--as was taught to us by Granny Claire, the founder of our little family floral business. We are incredibly proud to serve you in ways that are founded in love, courtesy, and kindness.
