You don’t have to jump on a plane to Berlin, New York City or Linz to experience cutting edge intermedia performance! CU Boulder Sonic Arts presents the first annual Visual Music Vortex Festival, showcasing performing artists at the forefront of synesthetic audio-visual art making. Festival artists such as DJ Spooky, Mendoza, Theodore, Winters, Biggs, DuBois, and Wurst wear both sonic and visual hats, flipping fluidly between cinematic sound and rhythmic visual images on stage.

The framework for the festival was inspired by an earlier performance by the festival curator, Angie Eng, which took place at the Kitchen (NYC) in 2007. Similar to that performance, the Visual Music Vortex will feature four musicians paired with four video artists, with the performers arrayed in a circle around a large screen in the center of the space. They will each perform short sets, with no pauses, and all artists on stage the entire time.Curator Angie Eng developed her aesthetic in the experimental music and live video scene of downtown New York City.
