Hi, my name is Katie and I am a new member of Free State Riding Club. I was a member back in the 1980's and have re-joined as my grand daughter is starting to ride. I figure if I am going to be at the grounds all day with her, I might as well help out. So I have volunteered and become an appointed member of the board to communicate club news and do fund raising to improve the club experience. My goal is to bring back the fun times, I remember growing up, showing at grounds. I will be reaching out to everyone as things begin to happen.
A little bit about myself is, I have lived in Bowie most of my life, I am married with one daughter, 2 lizards & 2 dogs. My step-son & granddaughter live here with us as one big family. I did most of my riding at Clayhill Stables. I was on their pony drill team & exhibition team until I got my own horse. That's when i joined Free State with a group of my friends and we actually had to ride our horses to the shows and back to the barn at the end of the day. Those were the days when we let our horses cool off in the creeks we had to pass through and had so much fun with each other.
I look forward to meeting all of you as we make our own memories in the future. I will be posting up coming events and fundraisers that will need your participation to re build Free State to what it once was.

Great day at Free State Riding Club on Fletchertown Road in Bowie.
We had a jumping, English and Western horse show. We had riders from SK Equestrian Stable and Runny Meade Farm, and individual riders. This is due to the volunteers who cut the grass, set up the jumps, manned the snack booth and completed show paperwork.
Our next show is September 28th when we look forward to more riders for a family fun-filled day.

Due to the forecasted heat we will be starting the show 1HR early!
T-SHIRTS or POLOS are encouraged for ALL riders. The water station is ready. Be sure to bring buckets & sponges for in-between & following classes. Shade areas will be provided for spectators on both sides on the large ring.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that Kathy & I have made the choice to CANCEL tomorrow's horse show.

Unfortunately, due to unforseen medical events Mrs. Nancy was hospitalized late last night. With so many of our other volunteers also needing to step back this weekend, from medical reasons & family plans related to the holiday weekend, we will not have the staff to host the event.

We wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day!
RAIN or SHINE we will see everyone on June 8th & June 22nd.

Unfortunately, our Open Show on April 6th, with Susan Reid, is being rescheduled for our June 22nd raindate & we will be joined by Leroy Bowles.

As for now, the spring storms have put a hurting on our show grounds. With downed trees & audio systems, plus immense rain water run off, our facilities just were not up for the fight. We plan to spend the time between now & May 25th making all the necessary repairs.

Anyone who would like to help with limb & tree clean up, fence & jump maintenence, or painting our entry booth please check out our Spring Clean events.

As an organization we strive for fun, safe and effective shows, with this being said we will sadly be canceling our last remaining fun show Nov 11th. We are all sad but understand with the bunch of conflicting events that we are low on the priority list and wish you all good luck at your events on the 11th. We hope that next year we come back bigger and stronger then ever with everything we have planned. Thank you all so much for a wonderful year and here’s to 2024!!
