We were just informed of the passing of Chas Smith, a great instrument inventor and fantastic pedal steel guitarist who lent his talents to both new music and countless film scores from Thomas Newman and Hans Zimmer. He was a friend and colleague of our Fearless Leader, and will be missed.

This might read weird coming from a zany new music outfit like ours, but Roger Corman provided a blueprint for all of us creating art on a shoestring budget even when other folks thought we were crazy.

He lived a full and prosperous life, but I never before considered a world without him and his amazing ideas.

Roger Corman, who directed and produced hundreds of B movies and discovered Jack Nicholson, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, has died. He was 98.

So proud of our BGSU alums in ADJ•ective New Music, LLC and their amazing new project with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra premiering this weekend!!!

As we get closer to the premiere of “…of the spheres…” we’re going to dive into the inspiration behind each of the movements. This project, also affectionately known as “The Orchestra’s Guide to the Galaxy” was conceived of as a foil to the Holst, in that we’ve been inspired by the scientific properties of our star system. To get inspired Toledo Symphony Orchestra and ADJ•ective New Music, LLC partnered with the The University of Toledo Department of Physics and Astronomy to tell us more about each planet’s composition, orbit, and resonances. UT scientists Michael Cushing and Heidi Westrick remained “on call” to answer questions throughout the composing process. Our mission from music director Alain Trudel… “help us learn something new about the cosmos at this concert!”

Not to hop too much on the Barbenheimer trend, but here's a great performance by Jocelyn Zelasko of John Adams' "Am I In Your Light?" from "Doctor Atomic," based on the same book Christopher Nolan used for the film.
