Planning a company retreat? Our property is the perfect balance of "close but far"—easy to access but secluded in a rugged mountain setting.

🛫 We're just 30 minutes from the Bozeman Airport and 20 minutes from Bozeman, so your team can avoid long travel times and start enjoying Montana right away.

Host meetings and meals in our modern barn, breakout spaces, or outdoor areas, and enjoy amenities like hiking trails, a game room, an outdoor fire pit, a large pizza oven, axe-throwing, and stargazing.

We can accommodate up to 24 guests in our lodges and, in warmer months, up to 36 more in glamping tents—all at rates much lower than Bozeman hotels.

🎿 For winter retreats, go skiing at nearby Bridger Bowl or Crosscut.

In the warmer months, our on-site event coordinator Chris will help book activities like horseback riding, whitewater rafting, Yellowstone tours, and more, tailored to your group’s interests.

During this season of thanks we’re thinking about all of your special times we get to be a part of.

We love your sweet, heartfelt vows, and kids playing games with cousins they don't see often enough. The extended family joking and talking around the table, and the friends, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents and everyone in between hitting the dance floor in unabashed celebration.

We're grateful to be a small part of these moments and to have this beautiful place to share.

If you've been to Hardscrabble, you've probably met our owners Kris and Peter Stewart.

Peter, a former school principal, now starts alternative schools with districts around the country.

Kris is a TV producer, culinary school grad, and mom. After living for eleven years near MSU, the Stewarts wanted to find space in the mountains for their sons to explore and to raise animals.

The property has been an event venue for almost thirty years under different names and owners. Since 2019, the Stewarts have worked hard to upgrade the experience of their guests who come to Hardscrabble for weddings, family reunions, ski weekends, multi-day music events, church retreats, multi-day yoga classes, corporate planning sessions, sports camps, cook-offs, anniversary parties, and even an opera.

But no matter the event type, Hardscrabble is a great place for gatherings big and small; the whole team treats our guests like family.

There's a 256-person wedding today at Hardscrabble Ranch. Meanwhile in Red Lodge, chicken pate and rice beer at Prerogative Kitchen, a 2-time James Beard nominee, scores 10/10 in enjoyment while first son goes to ski camp with Bridger Ski Foundation. Thank you for the vittles and vibes!

Thank you to everyone who made this spring and summer at Hardscrabble Ranch so memorable! From the MINI Takes the States rally and Bridger Ski Foundation, to the Christina Hill writers' retreat, weddings, a pizza-making showdown with GEOX and even welcoming a new baby yak – it's been full of fun, family, community, and lots of laughs. As we transition to fall and winter events, we are forever grateful for our amazing guests, vendors, and staff who make each gathering so special!

It's a BOY! Spring has sprung at Hardscrabble - we have a new BABY YAK! After 9 months of gestation, Gaffy birthed this bundle of newness. What is his name? "Shaggy" is in the running....help us name him!
