Want to know my #1 tip for engagement photos?
A lot of times during an engagement session couples will feel like they need to stop and smile at the camera or hold a certain pose. If you are working with me we are throwing that out the window.

The best photos always happen when you are enjoying your partner. This is why my engagement sessions have very little posing. I rely on prompts to keep you moving and having fun with your partner.

At the end of the day, your engagement photos are about your relationship with each other, not with me and my camera..

Twenty years from now when you look at your wedding photographs, you will be taken back.

Those loving looks. The smiles from your mom or dad. Your spouse beaming with love as you say your vows. These photos are not just images; they are relationships and emotions captured in time.

These moments can't be planned or staged. This is why one of my highest values when photographing your wedding is capturing your full day start to finish.

So when you look at your wedding album years from now you will have a beautiful record for future generations. One that tells the story of your love and commitment, and allows your children and grandchildren to see the people who have supported you along the way.

In the Bozeman area there are tons of AMAZING wedding venues! Here are 5 you have to check out:

- Roys Barn is an authentic Montana barn which intentionally hosts only one wedding each weekend to give couples full access to the barn during the afternoon before the wedding, the day of, and the following morning. The venue has stunning unobstructed views of the Bridger Mountains
- Hardscrabble Ranch is a guest ranch only thirty minutes away from either Bozeman or Livingston while still isolated from the bustle of human activity. At the base of the Bridger Mountains on Brackett Creek, you can enjoy stunning views of Ross Peak. The venue offers on-site lodging and tons of access to nature for your guests!
- The Chateau is an event venue unique to Montana. The pavilion itself is constructed in the European style of architecture, with thick stucco and stone walls, heavy beams and iron chandelier lighting. The grounds are located on 40 acres of conservation easement land with Hyalite Creek meandering through.
- The Baxter Hotel is one of the most iconic spots in Bozeman and one of the best indoor venue options. It features on-site catering, stunning architecture and plenty of space for you and your guests.
- You will find The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon tucked among majestic trees with stunning vista 10 miles south of Bozeman.

The process of finding the right wedding photographer can be challenging!
This is why it is so important to ask your potential wedding photographer to see at least 3 full-day wedding galleries.
The work you see on any photographer's site is the best of the best.
Want to know a secret?
Sometimes it's not even from a real wedding.
Some of their portfolio may be from a styled wedding shoot where a group of vendors put on a mock wedding to show off their skills. Some of it may even be from a content retreat where the photographer paid money to work with a big-name photographer or work at an epic location.
By asking to see 3 full-day wedding galleries you will get a very good idea of the consistency of this person's work, the quality of it, and if you like how they photograph the entire wedding.
Be sure to pay attention to the big moments of the wedding day over portraits and details. These will be the photos you treasure years down the road.

Remember how we used to put photos on CDs....
Technology will always change. Print is truly the only future proof option for your images.
Every collection I create includes high-resolution digital files that are individually edited and available for you to enjoy for years to come. Print them, share them with friends, and put one on your first Christmas card.

More than just digital files, I want you to have something REAL, something you can hold in your hands to remember your wedding day and pass on to future generations.

That is why I custom-design wedding albums for my couples that will last for decades, to come.

Let’s face it—planning a wedding is a lot! If you're working full-time, you don’t want to drown in stress. (Unless you're one of those superhuman planners who thrives on to-do lists. 😅)

Here’s how to simplify the madness by automating, delegating, and eliminating!

📲 1. Automate
Use tech to your advantage! Platforms like The Knot can manage RSVPs, your guest list, registry, and wedding info in one spot. They even have a planning app to keep you on track.

Another tip: Get addresses pre-printed on your invites! It may cost a bit extra, but the time you’ll save is worth it. 🙌

🤝 2. Delegate
Hate certain tasks? (For me and my wife, it was decorations!) We asked friends to help, and they loved it! Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to friends, family, or even a pro.

🚫 3. Eliminate
Just because the magazines say so doesn’t mean you have to do it. If something doesn’t feel right, cut it. It’s your wedding—make it meaningful to you!

Why an Engagement Sessioncan help you relax on your wedding day.

If possible, I always encourage couples to have an engagement session with the same photographer who will be capturing their wedding. Why? Because it makes a huge difference in how comfortable and natural you feel on your big day.

Early in my career, before I made it a policy to meet couples face-to-face before booking, I showed up to a wedding not even knowing who the bride was. (Yep—awkward).

For many, it’s hard enough to let their guard down, and experience the emotions of the day as they come, add in a random person who you have never met, it gets uncomfortable very quickly.

An engagement session helps eliminate that awkwardness. By the time your wedding day arrives, you’ve already spent time with your photographer, built trust, and seen them create amazing photos of you two. Instead of feeling like a stranger, they feel like an old friend—so you can focus on what matters: being fully present with your loved ones.

I’ll never forget a wedding where, during portraits, the bride wrapped her husband in a hug and started crying tears of joy. Because we had done an engagement session beforehand, she felt completely at ease—free to be fully herself in the moment.

That’s what an engagement session is really about.

Choosing the Right Photographer Isn’t Just About the Photos 📸✨

Finding a photographer you genuinely connect with is one of the biggest things to help you feel comfortable on camera.

I’ve seen couples choose a photographer just based on their portfolio, only to realize later they don’t vibe with them personally. But here’s the thing—your photographer is the person you’ll spend the most time with on your wedding day. If you don’t enjoy being around them before booking, chances are you’ll feel a little off during your wedding... and trust me, that shows in the photos!

I’m not saying your photographer needs to be your BFF, but they should be someone you trust and feel at ease with. That comfort makes all the difference—not just in how you feel but in how your photos turn out. So take the time to find someone who gets you. Your wedding day (and your photos) will be so much better for it!

Trying to figure out what kind of help you need for your wedding?

1️⃣ Full Planning:
This is the all-in package! A full planner helps you with everything from start to finish—finding your venue, booking vendors, creating a design plan, managing timelines, and all the little details in between. If you want someone by your side through the whole process, this is the way to go!

2️⃣ Partial Planning:
Already made some decisions but need help pulling it all together? A partial planner is there to fill in the gaps—helping with logistics, making vendor connections, and keeping you on track. It’s perfect if you want to stay involved but need a little guidance to bring it all home.

3️⃣ Day-of Coordinator:
This is for the couple who’s planned it all but wants someone to step in and take over on the big day. They’ll make a timeline, communicate with vendors, and make sure everything runs smoothly so you can relax and enjoy.

No matter what option you choose, having someone in your corner makes a huge difference and will keep your day as stress free as possible.

Under the umbrella of wedding photography stands an approach to documenting weddings known as wedding photojournalism. While part of the wedding genre, wedding photojournalism leans more into its photojournalism roots, offering a more "hands-off" approach to capturing the moments of the wedding day.

Alternatives to Receiving Lines

If a receiving line doesn’t feel like the right fit for your wedding day, there are plenty of other ways to connect with your guests and make them feel appreciated! Here are a few ideas:

1. Table Visits
Take time during dinner to walk around and greet guests at their tables. It’s more personal and allows for longer conversations.

2. Host a Cocktail Hour
Spend time mingling with guests before the reception begins. It’s a great way to catch up without feeling rushed.

3. First Dances
Invite guests to gather close to the dance floor for your first dance. Afterward, transition into mingling before the dance party starts.

4. Make Time During Toasts
Share a heartfelt thank-you during speeches or toasts. It’s a meaningful way to express gratitude to everyone at once.

5. Use a Receiving Line “Twist”
A great alternative is you as the couple can set up in chairs and grab a quick photo with each guest. This speeds things along, is a bit more comfortable for you, and allows you to get a photo with everyone!

Which option are you choosing?

Let’s Talk About Receiving Lines

Receiving lines used to be a wedding tradition that everyone included, but more couples are deciding whether it’s the right fit for their day.

Why couples love them:
💬 A chance to personally greet and thank every guest.
✔️ Ensures no one is overlooked during the celebration.

Why some skip them:
☀️Standing in the sun greeting 100 people can be miserable
🎉 Couples might prefer a more relaxed and organic way to connect with guests.

What do you think? Are receiving lines a meaningful tradition or a time-consuming formality? Share your thoughts!
