✨There will be a Shuttle offered at 9 AM from Lower Storm Castle take-out. Park your vehicles there and throw your boat and gear in the shuttle van to get a ride up to the event.

This will save us SO much space. We are working with less space than normal.

We will provide shuttles back to vehicles as needed.

CARPOOLING PERKS! If three or more people are in ONE vehicle, EACH person in that vehicle gets a raffle ticket for the general raffle.

You don’t want to miss out, there are some sweet prizes for the raffle!

Every year, space is limited at the Lava Lake pull-out. This year we are tighter on space with the construction taking place.

We appreciate all the work MDT is doing to take care of the road and keep the pull-out open for the festival!

We realize it is not the most convenient, but it is necessary to keep this festival going. Plus, it’s more fun to drive up with friends to get the stoke going before the races. 😎

The races of the Gallatin Whitewater festival, Part 3 -

The BoaterX:

This is in a way the simplest of the races. Everyone starts together at the 35 MPH Bridge, and paddles as fast as they can to the bottom of House Rock rapid. The first paddler to tap the finish line rock at the bottom of the Boulder Garden at House Rock wins.

This is a highly entertaining race to compete in and to watch!

The races of the Gallatin Whitewater Festival - part 2

The Downriver Race! This is a simple one. We have a starting line and a finish line. Paddle from point A to point B as fast as you can. Fastest time wins. Racers start as individuals on a 30 second interval in order to give everybody room to choose their fastest lines.

For the downriver race, we will have one starting point for all racers (The put in at Thumper Rapid). For competitors confident in running through the Mad Mile, the race is approximately 3 1/2 miles long with the finish line at the “Kayak take out.” Racers must TOUCH THE ROCK INDICATED BY THE ORANGE ROAD CONE TO FINISH.

For intermediate paddlers confident with the Gallatin River upstream of the Mad Mile, we will have an upper finish line at the 35 MPH Bridge.

The events of GWF 2023, Part 1:

Whitewater Slalom - on our course paddlers must navigate a short course navigating through a dozen gates (on our course). The gates are coded green and red. A racer must pass downstream through green gates and upstream through red gates on their way to the finish line. Time penalties are assessed for touching a gate (2 seconds) and missing a gate (50 seconds). A racer’s total time is calculated by adding the time it takes them from start to finish and the penalties they accrue on the course.

This is a short course and an excellent spectator event, because on lookers can see the whole race. It is exciting because it takes a relatively easy section of whitewater, and makes it very challenging!

Some shots from the Slalom race last year!

This is a great spectating event. It starts right under the 35 mph bridge and ends around the old bridge just downstream. You can see the boaters weave through all of the gates from a safe spot on the bank!

Not only kayakers but canoers too!
