The Habitat

The Habitat The Habitat is a House concert venue featuring talented independent musicians, both local to the area and those visiting the Bradenton Area
(1)

The Habitat is the private home of Ken and Heather Settlemyer who are passionate about the importance of nurturing both local plant and animal wildlife and independent musicians. We are proud to maintain over 1/4 acre of wilderness within a city environment, providing much needed habitat for a variety of native species. We plant only native species and manage and eliminate the non native species i

n that area.We are delighted to play host, not just to excellent musicians, but to a plethora of beautiful butterflies. The Habitat is by invitation (message for info and directions if needed), BYOB and a there is a recommended donation for the musician/musicians. Food to share is always welcomed, but not required. We look forward to seeing our friends at The Habitat!

This message has been delayed far past when we should have voiced our thanks. We've felt pretty overwhelmed! You see...

Once upon a time there was a great, magnificent live oak tree that sheltered music lovers from the sun at The Habitat and formed a backdrop for wonderful music. Milton, who obviously had no respect for either music or shade, ripped that gorgeous tree up by it's roots.

We are used to being the ones helping people, and found it hard to ask for help from others, but were encouraged by a couple of friends to reach out to Lone Palm foundation for help and wow! They came through! We sent in an application, rather expecting to be graciously turned down in favor of others with needs that exceed ours. My phriends, we were not. Less than 4 days after our request we had a check in our hands to help pay for the tree removal. Thank you to everyone in the organization and all those that have donated, past, present and future.

The damage we experienced from Hurricane Milton does not compare to so many others that are recovering from the storm, but we lost something during that storm that we consider irreplaceable - the largest tree on our property, that we called "The Habitat Tree" - a large Live Oak tree that based on the rings count was about 100 years old, and one of the largest trees in town.

It's removal and cleanup has been a long daunting task (with a quite high expense that we needed to move forward on quickly as it was partially on top of the house)... But the biggest loss is the tree and the backdrop it provided for our first 150 concerts. Thank you Lone Palm for your financial assistance in getting us through the worst of the recovery.

We will be planting a new live oak tree and other plants that will re- invigorate
the habitat area. We greatly appreciate the passion our phriends have shown in their support and love of what we have built here and will build again! Our friend Roxanne Harker recently has decided, in her wisdom, to arrange some charity wristbands that will be available for a donation to help replant The Habitat. Any funds provided from the donations for wristbands or anyone that simply wants to send a donation for the purpose of giving our bees, bats, birds and butterflies their homes back that is is excess of what is needed for the replanting is going straight back to The Lone Palm Foundation with our extreme appreciation. Date still to be determined, but once the new tree is in place and we're ready for the grand unveiling, we'd like to invite all of you to come celebrate, live music, nature and parrot heads helping parrot heads! Keep the party going indeed! Cheers to The Lone Palm Foundation and, indeed...all of us.

Hello all! We are busy post Milton trying to find the right "new look" for The Habitat! On 11/12/24 we have a Florida native plant expert coming to help us determine the correct plan to re tree/smaller plants our certified wildlife habitat. On SUNDAY 11/17/24 Will Kimbrough will be here and we will have fairy lights and bubbles and joy! There will still be a lot of ugly during the day, but it will look and sound fantastic in the dark :)! 11/30/2024 brings Brooke Graham to us for the first time! You can't miss this show! She was an amazing headliner at MOTM! On December 7th Scott Kirby and Lew London return. We've missed them terribly! Ken and I hope that you will find time in your schedules to come enjoy and support the musicians and our mission! Trevor Bystrom is showing the Trop Rock folks his talents at his first MOTM. Many of you know that Ken and I aren't all that easily impressed and this young man wowed us. Several of the awesome, more veteran, Trop Rock musicians have welcomed him to do a song or three on their stage. Such a wonderful network of people lifting each other up, cheering sucesses and welcoming the "new guy" to the genre. He has the 9:45 spot tomorrow (Friday) on the Buddy's Backyard stage and plays again on Sunday. Keep an eye out for this singer songwriter...he's already made a name for himself in the raegae genre, he's going to be an awesome addition to Trop Rock. FyI, he's the other under 30 redhead that isn't Bryton Stoll!

Hello Habiatians! We are fairly tired doing the cleanup post hurricane Milton. It's happening though! Several people have asked how they can help the space recover so it will be beautiful for our musicians and their fans again. The answer is seedlings! If you want to be a part of re beautifying The Habitat, we will gratefully accept baby plants! Not to look gift horses in the mouth, but to follow our mission statement, they need to be florida native plants.

Please join us for one or more of the remaining 2024 concerts...
Sunday November 17th Will Kimbrough
Saturday November 30th Brooke Graham
Saturday December 7th Scott Kirby with Lew London
Saturday December 28th Mike Nash

We will happily and gratefully add your seedling to our rather flatened and sad certified Wildlife sanctuary. Attached is a list you may find helpful!

You can help provide food and habitat for Florida's butterflies by landscaping with native wildflowers. Learn more now.
