Every once in a while over the years I've gone to the hospital after the birth for a client or friend to shoot some image of newborn while he or she was still tiny and new. But now the photography industry has made a name for these sessions- they're "Fresh 48 Sessions". These sessions are planned and booked during the pregnancy, and then I'm called right after the birth so that I can head to the hospital within the first 48 hours (although if Momma is up to it, ideally it's within the first 24 hours). And during this session I capture the emotion (or exhaustion, or both) that the new family is feeling. It's about 60 minutes, and I get shots of diaper changes, breast feeding (if Mom is comfortable with this), lots of cuddles, maybe interactions with siblings (if they're allowed in the room), and the adorable little yawns and stretches that only a newborn can make cute. Whatever is there, I'll get it. What I adore about these sessions is that there's no pressure on the family- just sit back and cuddle your newborn and leave the rest to me- but the love that comes out in these images is unlike any other session. Here's a few from a recent Fresh 48 Session in Modesto:
