Please continue to pray for Lisa Harper. Besides her heart issues she now has pneumonia and will be there at least two more days. Thursday is her birthday and she hopes to come home by then.

From our pastor:

The saga of my health issues continue to process towards a surgical procedure in early February at Vanderbilt Medical Center. I have talked with members of my medical team there and will be coordinating an entrance into the hospital for the first full week of the month. Procedures, length of stay and follow up are all yet to be decided once all medical records are received and reviewed.

I have appointments this week and next with my medical team here. Until then I am still restricted to the house, family only for visitors with some limitations in reference to illness (colds, flu, etc)

Likewise limitations of activity, diet, etc all remain in place. Energy level is growing slowly, attitude is positive, faith is strong and of course the uncertainty of the many unknowns.

Thanks again for your prayers and support for Martha, myself, our family and our medical teams.

Martha and Ken

David Hardy just asked me to post we will NOT be having church this Sunday, January 12th, due to the weather conditions. Stay home, warm, safe, and pray for all our faith family!

Just talked to Lisa Harper and she asked me to update all of you on her health issues. She went to the doctor today and he wants her back on her infusions. In addition, she will continue with occupational and physical therapy. She would welcome phone calls! Next week is her birthday so a card or two would be a blessing too!
She misses her CUMC family and can’t wait till she can come back to be with us.

From our pastor:

The cold gray days of winter seem to be upon us. Being under “house arrest”, I can only imagine the bitterness with which the cold bites.

We continue to make, ever so slowly, positive steps toward my regaining of strength and stability. The second escapade in the hospital brought me home even weaker than the first. The dehydration and the bowel obstruction really wore me down. I am glad to be making positive steps no matter how small.

We continue to wait for our conference with Vanderbilt as to next steps. Thanks for all your love and prayers.

The UMYF will meet on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. If you would like to help furnish a meal for our youth, please contact Pat Forbess, Dolly Gray, Barbara Maness, Debbie Bringle, or Sharon Hardy.

Please notice that Choir Practice has moved from Wednesday night to Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. The choir invites you to come join them.

Thanks to Matthew Nelson for bringing the message this morning as Dr. Ken recovers from heart issues.

We will have our monthly potluck meal next Sunday, January 12th, following the worship service. Please bring enough food for your family, plus some to share with our guests.

From J.R., Mary Sue, and Anna: Thank you so much for the donations of warm clothing and other needed articles for the hurricane victims in North Carolina. As the folks at Clopton so often do, your generosity exceeded our wildest hopes.

Children's workers on Sundays are needed. If you wish to help, please see Lesley Williams, Lisa Bowes, or Ronda Grissom to volunteer.

The church has received memorials for Jennifer Buckner, daughter of Lewis Johnson, from Cheryle Jenner, Tara and Tamara McClelland, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Davis.

The church has received a memorial for Bonnie Strain from Cheryle Jenner, Tara and Tamara McClelland.

The cemetery has received a memorial for Martha Wallace and an honorarium for Dr. John Jones from Bill Wallace.

Our men had a very successful breakfast on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who braved this cold weather.

From our pastor, Dr. Ken
Uselton:

We have made it home and making the adjustments from hospital to home. I was weaker and more exhausted than I realized. Friday night into Saturday morning I slept almost thirteen hours. The remainder of the day was very “slow” as today has been. The little things we do and take for granted … shower, getting dressed, etc. took all the energy I could muster.

I then find a chair to lay back in for the remainder of the day. I do try and walk a little when I get up for the restroom and then back to my chair. My goal is to get back to where I was before the second hospitalization. Then we will set the next plan of action.

Martha has been an excellent nurse, as well as Sheriff. Grateful for your prayers.

Ken

Good morning Church,

The ramifications of the last few days have been forthcoming at a pace that has been almost overwhelming … a blocked intestinal obstruction has brought complication issues to the cardio health issues I was already experiencing, my blood pressure went down to alarming levels I am told, and the stress for my family been difficult to measure and absorb.

The blockage removed itself yesterday midday, I have been moved to a step-down area and have been seeing multiple rehab folks. They are slowing re-introducing some of my meds and slowly re-introducing liquids and soft foods.

The game plan is to slowly regain hopefully to where we were before all this happened, to return home and to prepare for surgery at Vanderbilt. Thanks again for all your prayers and love.
Ken

Please continue to remember Ken and Martha in your prayers. I am sure a card or note to their home address would be uplifting also.

From our pastor, Dr. Ken Uselton and his lovely wife, Martha:

Good morning Church,

Saturday began well with a call from the physician’s office at Vanderbilt to confirm an appointment for a tell-heath-conference with Vanderbilt for January 17. However Sunday brought another health issue and I find myself back in the hospital, this time for a long spell in ER and now in an intensive care unit. They have stabilized me, a solid evening of rest and more test scheduled for today.

Yes the saga continues own but my faith and belief in God has not wavered. We will take the blessings of each day and travel with a desire for good health in the coming days. Martha and I still request your prayers and likewise for our medical teams.

New marquee thanks to Steve Davis.

Hello everyone,

Please note that none of the normal activities at the church for this week will meet. The only exception is the Men's Community Breakfast which will be held at the church on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. The men will serve their usual wonderful buffet of breakfast foods including country ham, pork sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, waffles, omelets, scrambled eggs, eggs cooked to order, grits, orange juice, and coffee. Invite your friends, family, and neighbors. Our men support our church and community in so many ways. We need to support them.

It is not too late to contribute to a monetary gift for our church employees, Dr. Ken, Matthew, Kathy, Sharon, and David. If you wish to do so, please place your gift into the offering plate or give it to Steve Davis. Remember to indicate how you wish it to be divided.

J. R. and Mary Sue Clark and Anna Clifton are taking warm clothing and other needed items to the hurricane victims in North Carolina. You may bring your donations to the church at any time. Contact J.R., Mary Sue, or Anna about specific needs, times, and other information.

Thanks to Matthew for bringing the message this morning in Dr. Ken's absence. Many of our congregation stepped up during the Christmas season to carry out Operation Christmas, Come and Go Communion, and other planned activities. We all have gifts from God. It was good to see them being put to good use. Again, thanks.

As always, workers are needed for the children on Sunday mornings and to prepare meals for the youth on Wednesday nights.

Happy New Year.

Marion
