The Chamber would like to welcome Umphrey Pavilion to the membership roles!
Nestled in the pines and gracing the southeastern shoreline of Lake Sam Rayburn is the Umphrey Family Pavilion which has become home to many fishing tournaments and events in the area. Located at 5438 Sam Rayburn Pkwy, Brookeland, TX 75931, the pavilion is the go-to destination for fishing tournaments and events of all kinds.
The pavilion area consists of the large Umphrey Pavilion, the smaller Marshall Pavilion, restroom and concession facility, caretakers home and parking for approximately 200 vehicles. Located adjacent to the Pavilion is the public boat ramp with four launch lanes and parking for approximately 200 vehicles. A short distance away is the Twin Dikes park with four additional boat launch lanes and additional parking.
With the start of the 21st Century a group was formed that grew into the 501(c) non-profit Lake Sam Rayburn Pavilion Association with the goal of building an event center on the lake. Working with Jasper County a lease for approximately 12 acres was executed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and funding drive was started. A major contributor to the drive was Walter Umphrey, a former Texas Park and Wildlife Commission member and lawyer from the Beaumont area. With funding secured the construction of the pavilion was completed in 2004 and the pavilion complex as well as the main pavilion was named in Walter’s honor. The second smaller pavilion was named in honor of Bill Marshall for his efforts in establishing the Association.
Besides fishing tournaments the pavilion is rentable for weddings, family or class reunions, and other events. Contact information is located to the right.
The pavilion operation is overseen by the Lake Sam Rayburn Pavilion Association Board of Directors who hire a caretaker to maintain the pavilion grounds.

We know it’s short notice, but we are extremely excited to announce our regrand opening/open house this week February 15-17th! We will have many representatives for the companies we carry there to give you the information you want. Special Guest Travis Hunter will be in the building Saturday. We will have some pros there for meet and greets and of course our pro team .combs and will be there to do seminars and an open Q&A. The 2024 installment of the Hobie Bass Open Series is making its return to Lake Sam Rayburn for its second round. This marks the series' third visit to this lake, with the inaugural event taking place in June 2021. This year, anglers from more than 15 different states are converging with great expectations, eyeing the coveted first-place prize over $5,200, alongside an overall event payout of $19,000. Payouts are attendance based and will grow as participation grows. Furthermore, this tournament serves as the second opportunity for anglers to secure their spot in the year-end championship known as the Tournament of Champions. At this championship event, 65 skilled anglers will battle it out on the picturesque Santee Cooper Lake in Clarendon County, South Carolina with last year’s event paying out a staggering $80,000 in prize money.
The Hobie Bass Open series stands out with its unique Catch Photo Release fishing style. Here, participating anglers snap a picture of their catch using an approved measuring device, and their performance is evaluated based on the cumulative length of their best five bass each day, rather than their weight. After capturing the moment, they can promptly release the fish back into the water and submit their photographic evidence through the user-friendly TourneyX live scoring app. This live scoring system allows the public to track all the fish catches and totals in real-time, making the competition even more engaging.
Registration will remain open until 10pm Wednesday the 7th and is open to anyone.

Minn Kota, Kubota and Major League Fishing Team Up for Texas Habtat Restoration Event at Sam Rayburn Reservoir

In partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Inland Fisheries Division (TPWD), Major League Fishing (MLF) pros from the Bass Pro Tour and volunteers will assemble artificial bass habitat – made of recycled PVC habitat products provided by MossBack Fish Habitat – and use Kubota Tractor Corporation’s (KTC) B3350HSD to deploy four Bass Recovery Zone artificial habitat reefs into Sam Rayburn Reservoir outside of the Umphrey Family Pavilion.

The mission of the MLF Fisheries Management Division (FMD) is to improve the quality of life for bass through research, education, fisheries enhancement and fish care. Minn Kota has extended its Habitat Restoration Projects into the third year with the MLF FMD as habitat restoration continues to be a major priority of fishery agencies across the country.

Sam Rayburn Reservoir and the Umphrey Family Pavilion is home to numerous bass fishing tournaments each year, and creating artificial habitat reefs outside of the park is essential to sustaining a thriving trophy-bass fishery. The products used in this project were selected specifically for their durability and long-term effectiveness as well as their sustainable manufacturing.

For more than 50 years, KTC’s iconic orange equipment has been at work in every rural landscape, suburban neighborhood and urban cityscape across America. The Sam Rayburn Reservoir project exemplifies the pride Kubota takes in having its equipment play an important role in building, maintaining and enhancing our communities.

The TPWD state-of-the-art habitat deployment barge will be onsite to aide in the precise placement of assembled habitat. MLF FMD director Steven Bardin will be joining MLF pros to volunteer, along with KTC employees who will be volunteering both their time and equipment for the restoration project.
