🌼 The Golden Glow of the Garden 🌼
Enchanting yellow flowers spread throughout the garden are like little pockets of sunshine, brightening up even the cloudiest of days. From vibrant echinacea to radiant sunflowers, cheerful marigolds to golden cosmos, yellow blooms bring joy, warmth and energy to every corner.

These flowers don’t just brighten the garden; they brighten our spirits too. They’re nature’s way of saying, “Look at the light all around you!”

What’s your favorite yellow flowers? Share with us in the comments!

With Sunny Smiles,
The Blythe Family 🌞

🎬 Come along as I share highlights from my first “training” day with the Curry County Master Gardener Association. 🌱

We kicked things off by assembling our Sustainable Gardening Handbook, met our 17 fellow trainees and connected with several past graduate volunteers.

After our class enjoyed an outstanding potluck lunch provided by MGA Volunteers, our first learning module was an incredibly informative introduction to Inclusive Excellence in Extension, which set the tone for fostering a welcoming environment in all we do in our community.

The day was completed with field trips to the Gold Beach HS Greenhouse followed by a tour of the brand new Demonstration Greenhouse and Learning Garden at the GB Community Center that’s still under construction.

Such an inspiring and knowledgeable group! I am BEYOND stoked for this next chapter in my life!

And I’m off to school! Today is our first in person class for students that enrolled in the 2025 Curry County Master Gardener Association program! I have never been so excited to be a student as I am for this course! And I was pretty excited when I was a student studying interior design. To achieve the certification badge and to wear it proudly as a master gardener is a big goal for me ❤️

🌱Seed-Starting Excitement at Blythe Family Farm! 🌱
After months of anticipation, we finally planted our GreenStalk Vertical Gardens planters! Two towers now brimming with possibilities - baby greens like spinach, Swiss chard and a variety of lettuces, plus radishes, finger carrots and an assortment of fragrant herbs. 🥬🥕👩🏼‍🌾

The miracle of how an itty bitty seed can grow such tasty food and the thrill of that first tiny sprout poking through the soil never gets old. Growing your own food isn’t just rewarding - it’s empowering! 💪 These little seeds are just the beginning of fresh, homegrown meals and we can’t wait to see these vertical gardens flourish. Here’s to the joy of growing together! 🌿

In 2013, our front yard was completely different - a mix of diseased small trees and shrubs, grass riddled with mint and other noxious weeds and an all around untended landscape.

Fast forward to 2024 and the always-changing view is an entirely new space!

Over the years, we:

🌳Removed trees and shrubs to open the possibilities.
🪨Scaped and leveled the earth for a clean slate.
🔨Installed and painted a rail fence to separate the front yard from the upper garden.
🪚Constructed numerous raised beds to grow veggies and flowers.
🚜Laid down commercial landscape fabric and yards of pea gravel for structure and ease of maintenance between the raised beds.
🌸 Every year, we plant grown-from-seed annuals and various perennials that bring life and personality to the yard.

🎉And 2025 will be bringing more changes! The results will be an even more vibrant, inviting landscape that embraces family, friends and vistors. Stay tuned for a montage of what we’ve accomplished in the last 12 years!

🥶 Cool, crisp January evening air in the garden the last two nights has been both finger numbing and exhilarating at the same time! For the last two days, we stayed out past dusk transplanting grown-from-seed cold-hardy annuals, pre-sprouted ranunculus and planting tulip bulbs. The beds are covered overnight to protect them from frost. Each little darling is a promise of vibrant blooms to come, and we can’t wait to share their beauty with you all this spring!

Winter may have just begun, but we’re already dreaming of spring blooms! 🌸 The promise of vibrant flowers and warmer days keeps us going through the chilly months. The forecast is scheduled to reprieve us with some delightful “Banana Belt” weather, motivating me to get outdoors, turn the soil in the raised beds and transplant cold hardy annual seedlings 🌱 and bulbs 🌷🪻before it returns to rainy and dreary.

Who else is ready for spring’s miracles to unfold?

Greenhouse update! 🌱🌱 It’s been a long minute since I’ve gone around to video what’s happening on the farm, so I felt it was time to catch y’all up!

Another new flower Blythe Family Farm is growing this season: Stock! The Column Blend variety (from Botanical Interests) shown below were started from seed on 10/12/24, and are coming along beautifully with 48 strong, healthy darlings!

These lovely flowers, with a mix of single and double blooms, are perfect for both our cut flower and show garden beds. Their spicy clove fragrance is absolutely intoxicating, they add such an elegant touch and I can’t wait to see (and smell!) these in full bloom. Here’s to new adventures in the garden! 🌸✨

🎢 Wow, what a ride! From 2021 to current day, the transformation of the lower property has been nothing short of remarkable! 🤩

As we close out our very first year in business, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our bloom loving hearts.💕 Starting Blythe Family Farm and BB’s Nursery has been the biggest dream come true, and it’s YOUR support - every event, every kind word, every purchase - that has truly made it possible.

This journey has been filled with challenges, joy and ooooh so much growth, and we’re extremely grateful to have you along. We can’t wait to see what 2025 holds and to keep growing and blooming with all of you! 🌸

🌸 Blythe Family Farm and BB’s Nursery is delighted to share that we’re exploring the opportunity of growing Canterbury Bells (aka Campanula) from seed for the first time! Known for their elegant bell-shaped blooms and charming, old fashioned appeal, these biennials are a perfect addition to our garden offerings (think English countryside gardens 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿).

Biennial means they typically require two growing seasons to complete their lifecycle, with the possibility that if started indoors in winter they may bloom the first year. 🤞🙏

Canterbury Bells benefit from exposure to cold temperatures, which mimics their natural cycle and helps germination, while they focus their first year on developing rosettes of leaves and will bloom in late spring to early summer.

🪻🌷In the garden, each flower is unique, bringing its own beauty to the world - no competition. Just growth and grace. In 2025, I encourage you to live more like flowers: focusing on your own path and flourish at your own pace.

What’s your favorite way to “just bloom”? Let us know in the comments. Happy Saturday friends!

I’ve already enrolled in the OSU Master Gardening Certification Program through Curry County Master Gardener Association that begins 1/11/25 - which I am super stoked for - so I thought I would add this garden masterclass course to help really solidify my plans for our farm in 2025! Oh the garden beds are gonna be OFF THE HOOK!

🌸First time growing Statice from seed! 🌸

This year, we’re diving into growing Statice as a cool-season, hardy annual and so far it’s been a very rewarding experience with almost 💯germination!

Statice is a superstar for both fresh and dried arrangements - similar to Strawflower. The papery blooms hold their color and shape long after the season ends. We can’t wait to see how these blooms shine in both our cut flower and show garden beds!

⛈️ I’m not keen on this stormy winter weather blowing through, but our cool hardy annual babies are thriving! 🌱 They’ve been hardening off outdoors under the overhang of the greenhouse for several days prior to the temps dropping, so never fear - they’re well adjusted! 🥰

I’ve never grown annuals during the winter for spring flowers so it’s definitely a new experience for me. I’m amazed at how sturdy their stems are! I’ll be planting them out in our raised beds that will be hooped to protect them. And I’ve started more babies inside the greenhouse that are sprouting up beautifully! 🌱🌱

Linaria
Stock (mix blend)
Celosia
Snapdragons (several varieties)
Canturbury Bells
Yarrow
Nigela Defr Blue
Larkspur
Ranunculus (3 varieties)
