Get prepared and stay safe friends. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผโ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

As we prepare for the upcoming storm ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’™ please take the necessary steps to keep your family and home safe. Let's make sure we're all prepared!

Hurricane Tips:
- Secure all outdoor furniture. Bring in any yard decor, secure anything that will fly around, secure gates, bring in hoses, potted plants, etc. Bring in patio furniture and grills.
- Stock up on essential supplies like water, batteries, and non-perishable food. Make sure to charge any device that can provide light, such as laptops, tablets, cameras, video cameras, and even old phones. Remember, old cell phones can still dial 911 in an emergency. Also, charge your external battery backups to keep devices powered. (Glow sticks can offer light for a few hours tooโ€”stand them upright in a glass or jar to create a makeshift lantern.)
- Create an emergency kit with flashlights, first-aid supplies, and important documents (place them in large plastic ziplock bags to prevent them from water damage).
- Refill any medications. Most insurance companies allow for 2 emergency refills per year.
- Fill your propane tanks. You can heat soup cans, boil water, make coffee, and do more than just grilling. Get an extra tank if possible.
- Fill every tub and sink with water. Cover sinks with Saran Wrap to keep them from collecting dust. Fill the washing machine and leave the lid up to store water.
- Remember, pets are family too. Take them with you!
- Gas up your car and have a spare gas container for your generator or vehicle when you run out.
- Emergency Communication Plan: Ensure everyone in your household knows how to communicate if separated or without cell service. Consider using walkie-talkies or designating an out-of-town contact.
- Backup Power for Medical Devices: If anyone in the home depends on medical devices that require power, make sure you have a backup source, such as a generator.
- Cash on Hand: Have some cash in small denominations since ATMs or card machines may be down.
- Food and Water for 72 Hours: Prepare at least 3 days' worth of non-perishable food and water (1 gallon per person per day). Donโ€™t forget your pets!
- Fuel for Generators: Make sure your generator is in good working condition, and you have plenty of fuel. Always run it outside and away from windows to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Know How to Shut Off Utilities: Familiarize yourself with how to turn off gas, water, and electricity at the main valves if needed.
- Fire Extinguisher: Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and ensure everyone knows how to use it.
- Waterproof Containers for Valuables: Store important documents like passports, birth certificates, and insurance policies in waterproof containers.
- Backup Important Files Digitally: Save important files and photos to a cloud service or external drive.
- Prep Your Refrigerator/Freezer: Set your fridge and freezer to the coldest setting beforehand to keep food fresh longer if the power goes out.
- Trim Trees and Shrubs: If possible, trim any branches near your home to minimize damage from high winds.
- Unplug Electronics: Unplug your appliances and electronics to protect them from power surges.
- Take a video inventory of your home. Walk room to room, open cabinets and drawers, and document everything. This helps with insurance claims if needed.
- Freeze a cup of water and place a coin on top after itโ€™s frozen. Keep this in the freezer to monitor the temperature. If the coin sinks into the ice, the freezer is thawed, and food may need to be discarded.
