During the Florida Folk Festival, experience Old Florida’s history, traditions and folkways at Florida Remembered. One of our newest additions to the festival, Florida Remembered is dedicated to the robust spirit of Floridians and those from around the globe who have built the foundation of the Florida we know and love. With ingenuity and perseverance, our predecessors have conquered the hardships they encountered to cultivate Florida’s cultural landscape. Meet characters from Florida’s past. See traditional crafts, tools and skills faithfully reproduced by experts. Visit an authentic Cracker Cow Camp. ✨ Don't forget to check out our latest "Lessons from The Marjories" piece by Leslie Kemp Poole 👏

"Long before author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings won her Pulitzer Prize or Marjorie Harris Carr summoned up opposition to the Cross Florida Barge Canal or Marjory Stoneman Douglas became a force for protecting the Everglades, there was May Mann Jennings.

To my thinking, she was Florida’s first “Marjorie,” an affectionate term for a stalwart environmental advocate." 💪

Michelle Bullwinkle, Director of Alumni and Donor Relations at Pasco Hernando State College was an informative and interesting speaker at today's luncheon. She noted that the GFWC Scholarship Fund at PHSC is among the earliest established. We renewed our support of it with a donation today for local women students. Natalie presented another intriguing history lesson of an early Womans Club member named Bertha Hancock Ashbrook, "The Book Lady" 1893--1972, who promoted literacy through making books available and supported establishing the public library in Brooksville. Tracy coordinated a fabulous Cuban food luncheon plus homemade desserts. The kitchen renovation project is proceeding with added support from Jessica Haher--thank you Ms. President! Lots of news to report and we're planning our volunteer work at Art in the Park this weekend.

If you can help with Art in the Park, contact the event coordinators using the link in their post. Next weekend😍
