Lebruce Vineyard and Winery
Lebruce Vineyard and Winery is located one mile south of Bruce, SD. If approaching from I-29, take exit 140 and travel west to 466th Ave. If traveling on US Highway 14, take the Bruce exit north (466th Ave.).
The vineyard and winery are located on the family farm that has been owned since 1950. The original farmstead has been re-purposed from a diversified crop and livestock operation. There are few things in the world that are more pleasing to the senses than a beautiful vineyard and a lovely glass of wine. In 2014, six rows of grapes (100 plants) were planted to see if they loved their new home. The following year, 16 additional rows were planted (390 plants) to bring the size of the vineyard to nearly one acre. As vineyards go, this is modest in size, but created a great education in the study of viticulture. The cold northern climate has not always been friendly to our vines, but grapes are a hardy plant that somehow find ways to survive even the coldest of winter weather and post-budding frosts.
We became a licensed South Dakota Farm Winery in 2018. From our first vineyard harvest, we were able to product two red wines (Marquette and St. Croix) and two white wines (La Crescent and Frontenac Blanc). We were also able to harvest enough apples and elderberries from our fruit orchard to make some additional estate wines. During late fall and winter of 2018 - 2019 we bought South Dakota grown fruits including Raspberries, Black Currants, Haskaps, and Aronias. In addition, we purchased honey in Bruce, SD, and started making honey wine (mead). So, if you are counting, that adds up to 9 different varieties of wine, each with its own unique character.
Our goal is to complete a new wine tasting room in 2019 to provide a unique experience for our guests. The vineyard overlooks the Big Sioux River valley giving beautiful panoramic views of the countryside. Sunsets are special here! We love company, so feel free to stop up and visit. If you would like to schedule a tasting, please feel free to contact us to make arrangements. When the new tasting room is completed we will be posting hours of operation.
