Glynn County History Moment—The Seaside Attraction That Might Have Been…

Back in 1970, a proposed sea-life aquarium and park attraction was in the works for Jekyll Island. Plagued with financing problems and pushback from early environmentalists, the proposed Sea World/Sea Circus project never made it off the ground.

We’ve attached an early advertisement that shows the proposed park and what might have been. By early 1973, despite a groundbreaking ceremony in June of 1971, the project was dead. It’s interesting to look back and imagine what impacts this attraction might have had on Jekyll and the surrounding areas.

Merry Christmas and Thank You!! Phillips Wealth Management brought a very generous donation to Sheriff Jump's Toy Drive, benefiting Safe Harbor Children's Center, Inc.

There are 102 kids in need this year, ages newborn to 18. Ideas for gifts are listed below. Only new, unwrapped toys will be donated.

Donations will be accepted until Wednesday, December 18, at the Glynn County Sheriff's Office, 100 Sulphur Springs Rd, Brunswick, Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm.

"Most of our residential children in our group homes (approximately 30 of that 102 children) are teenagers, but we do have a lot of younger ones in our outreach programs. In addition, we give a new toy to every child that comes through our Children's Advocacy Center all year long, so the toys go a long way beyond just Christmas!!"

Items that are super-helpful at Christmas and for Safe Harbor in general include the following:
• Toys for little girls/boys
• Dolls/Stuffed Animals
• Board Games/Puzzles
• Sports Items (basketballs, soccer balls, etc.)
• Arts & Crafts supplies
• Backpacks
• New socks & new underwear (for all ages)

The Grinch is back! GCPD and GCFR are looking forward to catching the Grinch before he can steal Christmas! Once we have him in custody, The Grinch will be touring Glynn County neighborhoods under the watchful eye of GCPD, GCFR and Santa Claus handing out candy to Glynn County children. Keep checking this page for when Santa and The Grinch will be in your neighborhood.

***The Annual Floyd Faust Memorial Turkey Shoot***
The 2024 Turkey Shoot begins November 20 and runs through November 27.

This is a great family event. No shooting experience needed.

Bring your shotgun or use one of ours just leave your personal ammo at home. We have shells for 12, 16 (may be out of 16), 20 and 410 gauge.

$3 per shoot includes shells.
Each shoot is made up of 12 shooters. One shooter from each shoot will win a gift card (to buy a turkey if you choose to).

We open at 6:30pm-ish and start shooting as soon as we have 12 shooters.

We keep shooting as long as we have 12 shooters.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A LOUD EVENT

We recommend that you bring hearing protection with you or purchase ear plugs from concession stand.
