Starting the week off by highlighting this star-studded Contract Card from the 1968-1970 seasons. Over the years Theare Services booked dozens of shows at the hall and this is just one of many of their cards! Were you lucky enough to be at any of these shows? If not, which show would you have loved to attend?
What do we have here, you might be wondering? These, my friends, are the Kleinhans Music Hall 'Contract Cards,' so named by our Archivist, Lauren Becker. We wanted to share some highlights from our past with you - performances, events, speakers, and more.
These cards were maintained by the Kleinhans staff to easily track who rented the hall, when, and for what. They also include the attendance, the rental fee, and which space was rented. This database started in 1940, long before computers, and was maintained well into the 1990s. Each card was manually rolled into the typewriter carriage and lined up each time a new event needed to be added to the record, a process that is foreign to many today! Thanks to the fastidious work of Kleinhans staff, we have an amazing catalog of events throughout these years.
