Crystal Springs is proud to be part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf, a global initiative dedicated to environmental sustainability on the course. This means we take extra steps to protect local wildlife, conserve water, reduce chemical use, and keep our greens as eco-friendly as they are beautiful. 🌎💚

And here’s proof it’s working! 📊🐦 A recent bird count by our partners at Sequoia Audubon revealed over 30 different bird species thriving on our course, including:

🦅 2 Bald Eagles soaring over the reservoir
🦆 9 Mallards enjoying our water features
🦃 28 Wild Turkeys strutting across the greens
🎶 Songbirds like Western Bluebirds, Townsend’s Warblers & Chestnut-backed Chickadees

Hitting a fairway bunker shot requires technique and focus to ensure solid contact and accuracy. Here are the key steps to help you execute the shot successfully:

1. Assess the Lie
Good Lie: If the ball is sitting cleanly on the sand, you can make a regular swing.
Buried or Bad Lie: Prioritize advancing the ball back to safety rather than distance.
2. Choose the Right Club
Use a club with enough loft to clear the lip of the bunker.
Avoid taking a club that might risk hitting the lip; prioritize accuracy over distance.
3. Adjust Your Stance
Dig In: Firmly plant your feet into the sand for stability. This may lower your body slightly, so grip down on the club to compensate.
Position the ball slightly forward in your stance (just ahead of center).
4. Maintain Balance
Keep your lower body quiet and stable during the swing to avoid slipping.
Focus on maintaining a smooth tempo to prevent over-swinging.
5. Make Clean Contact
Aim to hit the ball first, not the sand. Think of “picking” the ball cleanly off the surface.
Avoid digging into the sand; shallow out your swing by focusing on a sweeping motion.
6. Focus on Follow-Through
Complete your swing fully, staying balanced throughout.
Don’t try to scoop the ball into the air; let the loft of the club do the work.
7. Practice
Practicing fairway bunker shots can build confidence and help you get a feel for the correct technique under varying conditions.
