We are proud to recognize our dedicated staff, board, committee members, and volunteer coaches for achieving 100% SafeSport compliance at First Tee Eastern Michigan! This accomplishment reflects our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the young people in our community. By staying informed and up-to-date on best practices, our team ensures that children remain safe while they learn and grow with us.
But why is this compliance so important?
For children to thrive both intellectually and emotionally, they need a foundation of physical and emotional safety—whether at home, school, or within their community. Parents today are increasingly turning to extracurricular activities not just for fun, but for opportunities to help their children build confidence, character, and life skills. In fact, 80% of parents believe that these activities are more about personal development than recreation.
Sports, in particular, play a crucial role in fostering mental well-being, teaching essential life skills, and connecting children with supportive adults who guide their character development. Nearly all parents agree that safety is paramount: 94% of parents say it’s essential for coaches to undergo background checks, and they overwhelmingly prefer coaches who are trained to ensure safety, maintain a consistent coaching approach, and adapt to the unique needs of each child.
