Today, we celebrate a century of entertainment, history, and community as the Mother Lode Theatre marks its 100th anniversary! ✨✨

From 1912 to 1921, Butte was booming, with copper production at its peak due to World War I. The demand for copper surged, and Butte’s population approached 100,000. Money flowed through the city, leading to the creation of iconic landmarks like the six-story YMCA, the Columbia Gardens, and the magnificent Knights of Columbus Hall.

Amid this golden era, in 1923, the Masonic Bodies added the crowning jewel of Butte’s architecture—the six-story Masonic Temple and its adjoining 1,200-seat Temple Theatre, which later became known as the Fox Theatre. The building’s grandeur was a symbol of the times, funded entirely by private donations, and it quickly became a hub for live performances.

Over the years, the theatre saw many transformations, from live performances to movie screenings, but by the 1980s, it faced decline along with Butte’s other theatres. However, in true Butte spirit, the community came together to save this treasured venue. Through the efforts of the Butte Center for the Performing Arts, more than $3 million was raised for restoration, bringing the theatre back to life as the Mother Lode Theatre—a name reflecting Butte’s mining heritage as the “Richest Hill on Earth.”

Join us Thursday evening at the Michael Martin Murphey concert as we say thank you to our donor for the newly replaced stage, lobby, and balcony curtains and valances. We will have a special presentation before the concert and reception following the concert.

Stagecraft Industries from Oregon removed the old stage curtains and installed the curtains and valance. In addition we have new lobby and balcony door curtains/valance.

We are excited to announce the winner of our 2024 Winspire Raffle is Ray Rogers. Annika Chambers pulled the winning ticket following her concert Saturday evening. Ray will be heading to Ireland where he hopes to connect with family.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Mother Lode Theatre fundraiser raffle this year. The proceeds will be used to continue to upgrade our sound and light system to provide high quality performances.

Celebrating 100 years this fall, the Mother Lode Theatre opened as the Temple Theatre on September 6, 1924. Join us this year as we celebrate the Mother Lode Theatre's past and looking to the future as Butte's last historical theatre. Our Mother Lode Series begins on September 5, 2024, 100 years later, with Michael Martin Murphy - ('Wildfire'). Look for Series ticket information later this month.
