Have you signed up for our permaculture workshop on July 20!?

We hope you will join us for “Permaculture for the Impermanent: Permaculture and Theology.” This day combines the history and philosophy of permaculture, practical permaculture gardening, and design lessons with the insights of theology. We’ll explore how faith and sustainable living intersect through engaging visuals, interactive presentations, and hands-on activities leading to a deeper understanding of permaculture and its connection to our spiritual journey.

It's that time of year! This week is known as "Live In", when Companions from the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross and our Friends of Adelynrood volunteers join us for the week to ready our spaces for the upcoming summer season.

Thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work this week! Here are some snapshots of live in so far. Some familiar friends, flowers are beginning to bloom, and the light peering through the clouds after the rain always looks so beautifully dramatic.

Join us in July for the program RAWtools - Hope for People Who are Weary of Violence.

"Gun violence haunts America. It is a public health crisis. It is also a spiritual and moral crisis. Some say it’s a heart problem, others a gun problem. We say it’s both. Biblical prophets imagine a world where God’s people beat their swords into plows and their spears into pruning hooks, transforming the tools of death into tools of life, building a world free of violence."

Program facilitator, Shane Claiborne worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, and founded The Simple Way in Philadelphia. He heads-up Red Letter Christians, committed to living “as if Jesus meant the things he said.” Shane is a champion for grace, which has led him to jail advocating for the homeless, and to places like Iraq and Afghanistan to stand against war. Now grace fuels his passion to end the death penalty and help stop gun violence.

We hope you will join us for "Honoring the Original Stewards of the Land: Acknowledging the Past, Looking Toward a Shared Future", taking place June 7-8 here at Adelynrood.

Indigenous people lived on this land we now call coastal New England over 10,000 years before Europeans arrived and seized their ancestral homelands. The Society of Companions of the Holy Cross purchased Adelynrood a century ago. These 15-plus acres of beautiful land in northeastern Massachusetts included apple trees and a view toward the salt marsh, the Parker River, and the ocean beyond.

During this conference, Indigenous presenters whose people have called this land their home for generations will help us examine the past and look with hope toward a shared future of right relationship of the land and its people.

We received a visit from this guy today… one of the many wonders you may experience during a visit to Adelynrood!

In some cultures, a praying mantis can be a sign of good luck or fortune. The insects are said to represent success, large families and the cycle of life.

Thank you Wu An Martial Arts - YMAA Wu An for choosing our location for your national training camp! We enjoyed your presence and positive energy and hope to see you again!

🥳 Thank you to everyone for such a wonderful weekend and for attending the first ever YMAA USA National Training Camp! 🇺🇸 In addition to our MA participants, we had students travel in from AR, CO, CT, FL, NH, NJ, NY, and PA. We even had some international students join our community from Canada, Chile, and Egypt!

We’re so glad to have had such a great group with high training spirits and positive energy 💪 We were happy to see so many smiles as people interacted with each other in and out of training 🤩 We look forward to doing this again, but for now, it’s time to rest and recover a bit!

A big thank you to Adelynrood as well, for hosting us at their beautiful space in Byfield, MA 🙏 We appreciate how smoothly you ran everything and how polite and accommodating your staff were!

Join us in July for our social justice programming.

The first session, Contemplation as the Pathway to Racial healing, will be led by the Rev. Peter Gray, whose perspective is informed by trainings with the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond, Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice, and W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Becoming beloved community requires concrete, collective action and the tender-hearted work of transformation and healing. Hierarchies of human value leave an imprint on our souls. Trauma, shame and fear lead us to retreat toward safety, comfort and even denial, impeding our ability to build multicultural, anti-racist communities.

Explore contemplative prayer as a resource through which God can offer healing of troubled pasts, courage to engage in the present and strength to become repairers of the breach.
