Some soft pastels in the yarrow drying this year. Here is a little tidbit about the uses of yarrow. If you read about it, it has antiseptic qualities and can stop bleeding. One time we were camping in Canada far from towns and civilization. My dad was on blood thinners and cut his chin shaving. We could not stop the bleeding. We happened to find some yarrow growing and applied the smashed leaves to his cut. It did stop the bleeding immediately.

Guess what I am doing today? So, so very happy with the beautiful lanterns this year. They are big, plump, and plentiful. With the crazy weather we have had, I am so thankful for this bumper crop. I can’t wait to make some wreaths, bouquets, and arrangements with them. But for now, it’s back to cleaning off the leaves.

Dried chestnuts, artichokes, cardoons, pumpkin peppers, gourds

Some fall botanicals, hops, oak leaves, dock, pintoberry, corn leaves

Preserved wedding flowers under glass

The pretty blue popcorn, compliments of the Bocchis ( it’s always a surprise to see the next unusual thing they grow)! The popcorn can be placed in a brown paper bag and popped in the microwave. (On the cob or shelled) it is smaller than store bought popcorn and has a wheaty taste. I personally like it a lot!

I was so mad that the crazy windstorm we just had took down one of the cardoons but when I was checking the lunaria, many of the covers of the pearly discs were blown away! The tedious job of cleaning them should go much faster this year. Then I will start on the wreaths and bundles. (Apologies to all the neighbors who will have crops of lunaria next year due to the wind blown seeds!)
