Meet Jeanne Sikoff from Zander's Game House, our 2024 Awesome in Autism Shining Star! In 2015, after the loss of both her sisters and father to cancer, Jeanne decided that she would make a change that would allow her to spend more time with her son Alexander, (who had recently been diagnosed as neurodivergent) and to have a better relationship with her hometown community. In August of 2016 she opened Zander’s Game House in Camarillo, a gathering place for the community to come together and play. Jeanne feels strongly about fostering personal connections and found that game play is a perfect way to make that happen. Every month the ASVC young adult group gathers there and has a wonderful time! Today, after getting through the restrictions of the COVID pandemic and working hard to build her business into something far bigger than its humble beginnings, Zander’s just celebrated its 8th anniversary and announced plans for its expansion! Jeanne has been recognized by many in the community as a leader in local business. She has been awarded the West Ventura County Business Alliance Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Pacific Coast Business Times Spirit of Small Business Award, and is a recipient of a significant grant from Women’s Economic Ventures that has allowed her to create her “Giving Back” program for the neurodivergent community. On Thursday, August 22, 2024 I was honored to receive the Spirit of Small Business Award from the Pacific Coast Business Times and the SBA (Small Business Administration). I won in the category "Never Say Never" in recognition of my dedication to the recovery of Zander's Game House during and after the COVID pandemic. My persistence and firm belief that the community values what Zander's Game House offers drove my efforts. A huge thank you to two of my biggest supporters, Erin Samaniego and Kathleen Leonard, as well as all of my loyal Customers who are helping Zander's to thrive!
