So, we’re trying something new here at the Q - the four of us (Jon, Ed, Chuck, and me, Rafi), are going to take turns posting something on our FB/IG accounts, once a week.

Do you guys know Joel Edinberg?
Joel’s been around Q for a minute at this point, so many folks have either worked with him, or heard him play sax in any number of bands. His band Somerville Symphony Orkestar is a fantastic party band - they might even have played your wedding. Joel’s also toured a bunch, and composed music that’s been played on all sorts of shows (SNL/Daily Show).
Joel brings lots of awesome sauce to sessions - in fact, when he first started at Q he literally brought sauce - and his sous vide cooker, and would make us all incredible food. Joel has very keen ears and brings a creative and thoughtful approach both to engineering and production. He's comfortable with large ensembles and bands - capturing moving live performances, and equally at ease in intimate settings. In all situations Joel brings a great sense of humor and playfulness to sessions...
Just this week Joel cut vocals with Fuzzy Bumble, violin duets with (legend) Darol Anger, and was working on something I can’t talk about with someone I can’t mention, but I’ve heard a little bit of it and it’s very cool.

Joel's up for a BMA (studio engineer) and can be found making great pizzas (see attached) for his incredibly cute kids and lovely wife.

This past fall we partnered with the The Ronan Fund to offer a paid apprenticeship at Q Division - a partnership that's meaningful on many levels. The apprenticeship opportunity is helping us open our doors to less traditional candidates who often don't have this sort access. Q Division is deeply invested in widening opportunities in the music industry, and the Ronan Fund is doing meaningful work on this front.

On November 30th the Ronan Fund puts on their annual Music Jam - a show that we're hoping you'll consider attending - all the proceeds help fund opportunities for youth who are following unique, less traveled paths - both in the arts and the trades.

Performers for this year's show will be revealed over the next couple of weeks, but we CAN tell you that Rock & Roll Rumble winners The Ghouls will be there!
Hope to see some of you there!

Musicians of all ages forming impromptu supergroups. One cousin on stilts carrying a birthday cake. Children in branded beanies. Ronan’s favorite music venue barely containing a sold-out crowd. It happens every Thanksgiving weekend, and it’s our favorite night of the year.

We started this project with the Flying Nuns in February 2020 at Q Division v2.1, and finished it quite a bit later at Q Division 3.0. Love these guys. with Chuck Hargreaves

Oh man, are we excited about this next digital single on The Sound Cove! The one and only Flying Nuns return after a 20+ year hiatus with a scorching rendition of David Bowie’s seminal Hunky Dory album track, and “Rebel Rebel” B-side, the epic “Queen Bitch”. This beloved Boston proto-punk, pre-alternative band made quite a splash on the Boston music scene, with records for London’s Go! Discs, Matador, and our own hometown heroes, Boston’s Q Division.

If you spent anytime checking out some of the great rock and roll bands in Boston towards the end of the 20th century, chances were pretty high that the Flying Nuns were on your short list of must see/must check out bands. Known for their raw, high-energy performances, and a sound that blends garage rock with punk influences and a dash of power pop sensibility, they became a staple of the local music scene with their catchy riffs and dynamic stage presence.

Since the Flying Nuns formed in the late 1980’s, critics have praised their unfiltered approach to rock. **The Boston Globe** called them "a no-frills blast of raw rock 'n' roll," while **The Boston Phoenix** noted, "Flying Nuns channel the raw spirit of early punk with an intensity that keeps the crowd on their feet." **Boston Herald** described their music as “the perfect mix of grit and melody that hits hard and sticks with you."

With several well-received albums under their belt, Flying Nuns continues to draw a loyal fan base and make waves beyond Boston - “Queen Bitch” will be the first of several new singles to be released on The Sound Cove from this seminal Boston rock band. The single itself has all the hallmarks of the trade mark Flying Nuns sound, while still evoking the spirit of Bowie’s original track (nodding to the Velvet Underground), but also embellishing with a touch of Devo driven grit and sparseness with a percolating synth underbelly. We are so pleased to welcome The Flying Nuns to The Sound Cove!

You can get the single now at The Sound Cove Bandcamp site (see the link here, and in the comments), and it will be available on all streaming services on Friday, August, 30th.

As always, we can’t thank all of you enough for supporting this little label and we hope you dig this new single, “Queen Bitch” from Flying Nuns just as much as we do!
