In 1974, Canadian Lakes founder Donald Bollman made The Castle in Canadian Lakes not only the home for his wife, Laura and five children but also the recreational building for Canadian Lakes club member affairs as well as a VERY large dining area. The Bollman family lived in the penthouse seen in some photos in the historical album for some time. The 15,000 square foot slip-form poured concrete construction castle was created by Hough Brothers of Sunfield, Michigan. Mr. Bollman's vision became a reality as The Castle became perched high atop a hill, overlooking a long and beautiful lake filled valley. These days, The Castle overlooks The Highlands Golf Course, along with the Highland Haus and Alpine Haus. That lake filled valley is now known as Lake of the Clouds. During the winter months, she watches over all the snow activities many take part in including the new Tubing Tow, ice skating and more! The Castle in Canadian Lakes is now used for many Canadian Lakes social activities, weddings, proms and the Canadian Lakes Property Owners Corporation Annual Meeting in the fall. The Castle in Canadian Lakes is private and a Canadian Lakes Property Owner must sponsor those who are not members for rentals and therefore, no set tours are available. Many people do venture out and find the Castle in Canadian Lakes on their own and take fantastic photos. Feel free to share your photos here!
