Many of the dahlias that we “woke up” about a month ago are ready to take cuttings from
Why are we taking cuttings? To multiple our stock of dahlia plants.
🌸 we sterilize a sharp knife
🌸 we find dahlias that have at least 3 nodes
🌸 we cut above the third node
🌸 we have to take the lower set of leaves off so they do not sit below the soil line
🌸 we use a rooting hormone to help speed the rooting process along
🌸 then we wait
🌸 fingers crossed 🤞🏼 we have good luck
It’s time where thousands and thousands of seeds get started for the growing season
We use two different seed trays, a 50 count tray (holds 50 individual spots for a seed to grow) and a 128 count tray.
We are working on getting all our herbs seeded. Basil, parsley, thyme, oregano, catnip.
Yup we don’t only grow flowers here, we also grow a variety of herbs.
To prep our trays we pile soil high on the tray, with a circle motion we start pushing the soil into the small cells where the seeds grow. We then stack the trays up and push down to give an indentation where we will place the seed. Once the tray is seeded we lightly cover the soil with vermiculite. And water in

Our newly seeded trays are placed on racks near a heat source. This helps aid in faster germination. We check the trays daily, especially on sunny days to make sure the seedling trays have adequate water

Kevin is our tuxedo cat, mouse devourer, and he is a scaredy cat 🙀 (you don’t find him in the greenhouse often). So it’s always a nice treat when he comes to visit
I think Larry had just as much fun as Kevin did
