The Holy Cross Abbey is a historic location in Cañon City, Colorado. Built in 1924, this massive building served as a monastery and boarding school for Benedictine monks. After decades of dwindling membership, the Holy Cross Abbey closed in 2005. While the remaining monks sought to find new quarters for themselves, the building stood dark, but perhaps not so empty or quiet.

Claims of shadows, noises, and an unfriendly presence in the basement turned this former house of learning and worship into a paranormal hotspot. Investigators from all over the country have scoured this ominous building to contact the spirits of those who still remain, nearly twenty years after the final group of monks made their exit.

Join Night Shift Paranormal as we walk the hallways of this massive structure, gathering evidence of those who made their way to The Holy Cross Abbey, but decided to never leave, even in death. Experience The Abbey After Dark!

Wanted to share a few more old pictures! The 1st set says 'breaking ground for Monastery March 1924'. Written on the 2nd set is 'laying the footings May 1924' for the top picture. The writing for the bottom picture is more difficult to read - I believe it says '... concrete...Aug 1924'.

Mark your calendars for an unforgettable weekend of reconnecting and reminiscing! We're thrilled to announce our upcoming Alumni Weekend, taking place from August 16th to August 18th, 2024. Get ready to gather with old friends and make new memories that will last a lifetime.

Schedule of Events:

📅 Friday, August 16th: Mix and Mingle

Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Location: Holy Cross Abbey grounds (between the monastery and Ullathorne Hall)
Details: Join us for a casual mix and mingle session to kick off the weekend! Enjoy a mini nacho bar, refreshments including water, sodas, beer & wine, and of course, plenty of lively conversations. The registration desk will be open starting at 4:00 PM to welcome you! Please bring a lawn chair with you!
📅 Saturday, August 17th:

Monastery Tours
Times: 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM
Location: Holy Cross Abbey
Details: Explore the historic monastery with guided tours led by Mike Baxter and Brenda McKay. Tours will last about 1.5 hours, with the possibility of visiting the gym and Hedley Hall.
Wine Tasting
Time: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Location: The Winery at the Holy Cross Abbey
Details: Indulge in a wine tasting experience at the renowned Winery at the Holy Cross Abbey. Sample a selection of fantastic wines and savor the flavors of the region. Please bring a lawn chair with you!
Cocktail Hour and Dinner
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Quality Inn
Details: Join us for a delightful BBQ feast featuring brisket, smoked chicken, tossed salad, baked beans, coleslaw, baked potato, rolls, and a scrumptious dessert. Raise a toast to old friendships and cherished memories during the cocktail hour followed by dinner.
📅 Sunday, August 18th:

Mass in the Abbey Chapel
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: Holy Cross Abbey Chapel
Details: Gather for a meaningful Mass in the tranquil setting of the Abbey Chapel. Prior to Mass, enjoy a casual outdoor breakfast from 8:30 to 9:45, with a choice of breakfast burritos or biscuits and gravy, along with water, juice, and coffee. Please bring a lawn chair with you for breakfast!
Cost:

$130 per person or $250 per couple
Unfortunately, tickets for individual events for the weekend are not available and pre-registration is necessary to attend the weekend activities.

In addition to the above schedule of activities: Alum Brendan Pardue will have a gathering at his residence (The Gibson Mansion) on Friday evening from 7:30 pm to 11 pm (or later). This is a don't miss....beautiful historic home, great live music, snacks and beverages!
