Where to begin? It was an epic Luna weekend. Not because of the work I do but for the work of so many more. Thank you to all that pitched in the help. The slalom community is like no other. It’s people like JBH, Marcos and Lou that made Luna come alive. Stephen and Juliann who’s part is almost surely the most important part of any slalom race. Jayce that brought us the sounds of a slalom race. Darrell, Greg, Levi, Ken and Joe all of ASSET Engineering lifting, carrying, connecting, zip-tying all the things, even going shopping for replacement TV monitor and sandbags. Thank you everyone that helped setup and tear down. I consider all these people part of the slalom community.
Thanks go out to Meredith McCullough of Brandon Main Street Association, the City of Brandon and Mayor Butch Lee for giving us this opportunity. I have yet to speak with anyone that didn’t like the venue and the hill.
I would like to thank the sponsors of Luna Slalom Jam 2024. We at Mississippi Grass Roots Slalom appreciate the support of people like ASSET Engineering, Revell Ace Hardware Reservoir, Allen’s Supermarket, Lucky Town Skate Shop, Sk8Kings, RipTide, Pat’s Risers, LaCosta Racing, USA Slalom Skateboarding and the ISSA.
It was great having the crew from OTRtv on the hill. Maria, Joe and Kristy pulled off a great live stream production. Kicking it up a notch indeed. We all appreciate Tate Nation’s coming out both days to document the event in still photos. Great work Tate.
The Scouts of Troop 229 did the best job of coneheading we even had at any Luna. Thanks go out to Scout Master Chris Gray for herding the cats and keeping them on their game. A special thanks to Lisa Ordono, our Cone Marshall. She also hung in there ALL day. That’s a tough job and that’s big. Thank you Lisa! Thanks also to the Girl Scouts of Troop 4313 who brought the racers sandwiches, chips and of course Girl Scout cookies.
Mudbugs Crawfish helped us out with a table and chairs for the OTRtv crew and reserved us a large section of the restaurant for our after party. Thanks!
And finally…
The talent of the athletes on the hill this past weekend was at level I’ve never witnessed before now. Nothing but amazing. Thank all of you for attending Luna and bringing your best. The participants ranged from multiple time World Champions to relatively new on the scene possible future World Champions. I loved seeing these racers having the opportunity to race with the best.
I would have to say LSJ24 was a success from many standpoints, new venue in a new city, exciting racing on challenging courses, live stream and good friends.
Let’s do it again! Next year!!
