I get asked quite a bit whether the glamping business keeps me doing laundry basically 24/7 … And the answer is yes, yes it does. 🙈 Which means going out of town, even for a short amount of time, always means coming home to quite a backlog of towels, sheets, blankets and rugs that need washed. (And it seems to *only* rain when I’m gone, so things get extra muddy. What’s up with that?!)This definitely isn’t my favorite part of owning a glamping retreat. But I will say, the experience has taught me a lot about staying organized in order to be as efficient as possible. While we do have a handful below five stars, most of them say positive things like this — including our only three-star review. 🫠 Reviews are EVERYTHING to a business like ours. It’s that stranger’s stamp of approval that everyone looks for before making a purchasing decision. I’m all for being honest in your feedback, don’t get me wrong. But if your stay wasn’t worth five stars, it’s so important let your host know what could have been better. Saying goodbye to our Austin home was bittersweet. We spent three years pouring money and sweat equity into fixing up our quirky house that came adorned with all sorts of original fixtures straight out of the ‘70s. But we had goals that we couldn’t attain where we were, so we knew it was time to move on. We used the equity from the sale to buy a cute little house on 10 acres in Canyon Lake, and immediately got to work building The Juniper from the ground up. Less than six months later, we officially opened for business. We’re still a while away from reaching our goals, but as we approach our first year in business next month, we already know this is the greatest decision we’ve ever made.
