At the beginning of April it really seemed like Spring would happen. Then Mother Nature says “JK!”
We Mainers know we should ignore that chubby rodent tomorrow. We will have 6 more weeks of winter, no matter what. Or 8. Maybe even 10.
Whatever! Here’s something to celebrate! 🎉
Flower bouquet subscriptions are now open!
We’re gonna do this just like last year- same number of bouquets, same price.
Two bouquets in June when roses and peonies are at peak. Six starting in August when the dahlias return to remind us that they’re queen of the garden.
Each subscription is $150, number of subscriptions is limited, first come, first serve. Email for me for more info at [email protected] or shoot me a message!
Sigh…I can almost smell them…
Any year I can come in from the garden after October 15th with an arm of dahlias is a good year
One more for the road!
One of the most fascinating things about dahlias is how much they vary during the course of a season. For example, ‘Cafe au Lait’ will often start blooming blush then slowly evolve to the porcelain which we all love so much. I’ve noticed in my little micro-climate that, as the night-time temps start dipping into the 40’s, my flowers start getting streaks of concentrated colors. It’s like the flower fairies didn’t mix the paint all the way before they brushed it onto the petals.
We’ve reached the point in the growing season where every morning I start my coffee and then hold my breath and peak out the window to check on the dahlias. With an overnight frost what was a field of green beauties dotted with blooms will become a pile of black, wet leaves. It’s always such a shock. Fingers crossed we get another week or two of these beauties!
Yep! It’s fall! 🍁
Begrudgingly accepting that fall is here. It’s been so hard to let go of summer. However, the smell of this bundle of sage for today’s bouquet subscriptions has me thinking of Thanksgiving! 🦃
This is why the dahlia ‘Peaches and Cream’ is such a popular cut dahlia. Just look at the legs on her!
Friday Flower subscription pick up! Nice to see some of the flowers from all the dahlia tubers I spent the winter irresponsibly purchasing. Here is Coseytown Gale and the ever lovely Brown Sugar.
Excuse me little lady! That’s my coffee. Dahlias are starting to come in 🙌. Put this together to thank the teachers slugging through the grind of summer school, which ends today.
First dahlia of the season is always exciting- it’s like welcoming back an old friend. Happy to see you, Diva! (and those are really rain drops! First actual rain since…mid-June?)
Nothing says “summer is finally here” like the first bouquet subscription pick up of the year! 🥳
Oh, it’s so horrible when you go out to harvest peonies and find some that have bloomed overnight, so you have to keep them for yourself. It’s just the worst.
Really doesn’t look like much…give it a couple of months! 😂 80 dahlia tubers in the ground, over 30 varieties including many new ones. 3x the number I had last year in my little suburban microfarm.
Who wants to join us for what my back is calling “dahliapaloza”? Handful of flower subscriptions are left- $150 for 8 weeks of bouquets- 2 in June and 6 starting in August when they babies cranking out their amazing blooms!
Last call for Mother’s Day!
Don’t mean to alarm you, but Mother’s Day is this Sunday! I have a handful of bouquet subscriptions left for this summer. They truly make the best gift- 8 seasonal bouquets picked up at our location in Cape Elizabeth. $150 and filled with love! DM me or shoot over an email [email protected]
Nothing I love more than some short, chubby seedlings. These Benary’s Giant zinnias are going in the ground next week.
May your hearts and nests be full this Easter morning!
It’s hard to not get excited about Spring when you have freshly hatched zinnias and the first round of basil in the grow room. Even though it’s still like 2 months until our last frost day. 🤷♀️ Yay for gardening in Maine!
Spring is surely in the air: yard is a mud puddle, birds are chirping everywhere and the duck eggs are getting huge. Perfect week to get some seeds going!
Don’t want to freak anyone out, but Valentine’s Day is a week away. And we’re all looking to get out of the chocolate/teddy bear/roses grown in South America mold….
Summber bouquet CSA subscriptions are a unique opportunity to say ”I love you!” over and over. Eight weeks of bouquets (2 in June, filled with roses and peonies, 6 come August when the Queens of Summer, the dahlias, return) picked up at our suburban micro flower farm. Subscriptions are $150 and are limited in number. DM me or email at [email protected] for more info.
Got my glasses out. Guess what that means…time to sow some tiny, tiny seeds!
Purple and ivory snapdragons to go along with our June bouquets. 🥳💐
Another morning of single digit temps. From my little growing patch I can see the ocean and the sea smoke on the horizon was so high it looked like a giant wave rolling in!
Growers in the Southern Hemisphere are starting to post pictures of their first dahlia blooms, which makes me a little jealous. So let’s play pretend and I’ll serve up this gorgeous pink dahlia I harvested at the end of last season.
2022 bouquet subscription reservations are open! PM me for more info or email me at [email protected].
Ya’ll get it
It’s a new year- time to get our ducks in a row!
Best thing about working with annual flowers is that each year begins anew, and I get to add more of what I loved (honeywort, I will follow you to the end of the earth) and throw into the compost pile what I didn’t (lemon basil, you smell amazing but I could do without the allergic reaction).
I’m busy planning for this summer’s bouquet subscriptions, so now that the holidays are over it’s time to get a little something for yourself!
8 week subscriptions are $150. PM me or email at [email protected] for more info!
It’s official! 🎉 2022 Summer Bouquet Subscriptions are now available!
8 weeks of beautiful home grown flowers for $150. Perfect gift for that person who has everything.
Limited number available- DM me or email at [email protected] for more info.
I’ve been carefully saving and drying all summer long for this special little lady’s first communion and confirmation. (and it was so nice that the resident ground hog disappeared long enough to let some of the ‘coral fountain’ to do its thing!)
