About Us
The Social House Inn in Carmi, completed in 1905 by John M. Crebs, was kept in the Crebs family for eighty years, and has often over the years been referred to as "The Fountains". This charming Inn is located at 311 West Main in the heart of Carmi.
Now an impressive Neo Classic Revival Inn, The Social House was completed in 1905 by John M. Crebs, a prominent banker and landowner. Upon entering the foyer, the grand mahogany staircase is enchanting and moves your thoughts to an era worth remembering. Mr. Crebs' library is located to the left of the foyer, still complimented with solid oak lead glass bookcases and a stunning chandelier. Paneled solid oak pocket doors allow you entry from the foyer and another set draws you into the formal dining room where the fireplace is accented by a sunlit tiffany stained window. This room makes meetings or dining an absolute pleasure. To the right of the foyer is a large parlor with a walnut fireplace as its centerpiece. In the back of the home is a terra-cotta tile floored garden room overlooking a brick courtyard surrounded by a white picket fence. The architectural beauty of the home continues into the nine bedrooms.
Whether you are in town to visit family and friends, need to host a meeting or party, or are looking for a romantic weekend getaway, The Social House Inn is ready to accommodate you.
