Lynne Sammon’s idea to start a bridal boutique had been her dream for many years. She took the time to raise her family, worked in-and-ran a wide variety of businesses, all the while fantasizing about her bridal store. Lynne joined the staff at The University of West Georgia, where she met Amy and developed a friendship. After 7 years at UWG, Lynne’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, and she decided it was time to follow her dream and open the bridal shop she had visualized for so long.
Amy had been toying with the idea of a bridal boutique for more than 20 years, but had always felt too intimidated to act on it. So when Lynne announced in the summer of 2016 that she wanted to open a bridal store, Amy was suddenly struck by the idea that this might be her only opportunity to follow her dream. After discussions with her family, she asked Lynne if she would like a partner and Lynne quickly replied, “YES”. Because they had worked together for several years, and had developed a great rapport, the two ladies knew they would make a great team.
After lots of research, meetings with other bridal shop owners, visits to bridal stores all around the country; a building just off the Carrollton square was purchased. The name ‘Downtown Gowns’, was the brainchild of Lynne’s daughter Meredith Sammon and was instantly loved. The dream, now with a name and a home, became reality!
Amy and Lynne have been working hard ever since; the remodeling is done the dresses are in the store and they are excited to share their dream with you.
