LIGHTING! We need to talk about the importance of light on your day and how it affects the versatility of a space, the options for your photographer and the guest experience.
1. Versatility: The Upchurch not only has light and bright spaces with beautiful window light and white walls that act as a natural reflector, but also amazing and expansive outdoor areas that allow so many spaces to enjoy in an aesthetic setting as well as beautiful lighting to set the mood for your event.
2. Optimal shooting location: Me being a professional photographer for 20 years, paved the way for where the buildings were placed, where plants were planted, the color of the walls and original art as backdrops. Photographers love the spaces because, no matter the time of day for your portraits and ceremony, there’s always plenty of open shade, backlit areas as well as covered porches that provide beautiful lighting opportunities. And can we talk about sunsets???!!!!🌅 We are positioned perfectly for golden hour and sunsets. The Main House and The Magnolia Lawn sit up very high on the property so it aligns perfectly to where the sun sets. It’s great for pictures even if it means stepping away from your reception for 5 minutes to do a miny couple’s session.
3. Guest experience: The lawn is round and it’s completely shaded by the house in the afternoon, so it means that you can situate your guests so that they are not being roasted by the sun and aren’t staring directly into it. I’ve seen it so many times in my career and it’s something that I truly tried to avoid. Not only that, the lighting on the property at night is SOOO magical. Because we’re a historic property, we’re not allowed to use street lamps or any bright lighting so we only use landscape lighting along with pathway lighting that paints the property in a warm and inviting hue. Guests love to meander around the outside of The Conservatory with their cocktails.
What’s been your experience at weddings you’ve attended?
