Look at our Village grow!!

What is going on at Don Horne Park? Ground work for infrastructure installation has begun in preparation for a neighborhood with approximately 40 new housing units. Design plans were assisted by Michigan Municipal League Foundation Business Services funding and infrastructure build out assisted by Michigan Economic Development Corporation RAP 2.0 funding administered by our economic development partners at Market One. This project also includes adding a proper parking lot for the park and little league fields.

Cassopolis, like many other communities nationwide, does not currently have enough housing stock to meet demand. Developments like this will add more families to our community, students to our schools, and employees to our workforce. Although this new neighborhood will help, there is still more work to be done. The Village of Cassopolis takes a holistic and sustainable approach to improving our housing stock by focusing on preservation, renovation, and development.

PRESERVATION: 56% of homes in the village were built before 1939. Preservation is vital to ensure these homes will be here for future generations. Since 2019 a total of 54 homes have been repaired/rehabbed through village administered programs such as MSDHA NEP and MI-HOPE with an additional 30 homes to be completed within the next 18 months.

RENOVATION: Finding opportunities to renovate existing buildings into housing. Through a partnership with the Cass County Land Bank the second floor of 117 S Broadway, or ‘Old Village Hall’, will be renovated into 6 new apartment units.

DEVELOPMENT: Adding new homes on vacant and infill lots, such as the neighborhood development pictured above and MSDHA MOD homes.

Day 3 of the fair and it was a hot one. It did not stop anyone from having a good time. Erny stoped by and I couldn’t help but check out the fairy gardens. I love seeing what the kids have done with our fairy garden items from the shop.

Here we are on Tuesday. Still having fun at the fair. Brought Nick with me today. Nick is our summer student. We are working with Better possibilities for youths. This has been a fun 6 weeks with Nicks help. We had a chance to check out a few other booths and fairy gardens this morning. The historical Society did an amazing job on their booth.

First full day at the fair. It was a lot of fun. One young lady said our booth looked like balloon world. Duane’s hand tied flies are a big hit. Stop by our booth and sign up so that you can win a flower arrangement delivered to your home. We hope to see everybody.

And they left me in charge of the cassopolis/Vandalia chamber of commerce booth 😂

Hello all, Beach Bash ‘24 is upon us. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe time. Please note that Broadway St will be closed off from Water St. to State St. Starting Saturday June 1st from 8a.m until midnight. The village will have volunteers shuttling people starting at 8a.m. The Village asks that customers start parking behind the old village municipal building starting at 8a.m.
